Yokohama YK420

Another tire question (dug through the archives but didn't find anything) -

Just got off the phone with Discount tire. They recommended the Yokohama YK420 (215x50x17) at just over $100/tire. I checked the Yoko web-site, but couldn't find this tire. Is this a discontiued model, or maybe just a model #, but the name is something else? Any other thoughts on tires would be much appreciated. Seems everyone likes the Pilot Sports, but I don't want to spend $200+ per tire. Thanks in advance

Called discount back - this is some one-off produced just for Discount. V-rated at 17", but only H rated @ 16". Similar to Avid T4. What do you guys who have deal w/ snow run (don't want to buy snow tires, the CL does just fine w/o with the Michi's on).
Help a brother out!!

Spend the $200 and get the Michelins, you will not be dissapointed. You get what you pay for. Just my 2 cents.

don't tell me you're recommending the stock Michelins. They are by far the worst tire available. Go w/ something cheaper and better quality than the Michelins. I've never heard of the YK420 so I can't comment. do you have a link to the tire...I couldn't find it on their site.

I'm not sure about the Yokohamas you are talking about. Get the Yokohama AVS ES100s they are $105 a tire on tirerack. Many members have them and they are great tires.

The AVS ES100s sound like a good deal - did a search and everyone has good things to say about them. Does anybondy drive these in the snow?

The ES100s are a summer tire. Not a good thing in the snow.

As for the YK420s, I seem to remember someone here got them and wasn't happy with them at all. I know I read somewhere that someone wasn't happy with them.

The best all season tire going these days is the Michelin Pilot A/S, but at 200 bucks a pop, it's a bit steep. Other members have had nothing but good things to say about the Sumito HTR+... They're only about 100 bucks at tirerack.

Bluto - nice link, thanks! Well, it looks like it's back to drawing board. I may just end up dropping the $$ for Pilot Sports

Thanks to all for the input. I cancelled the order for the YK420's.
Scrib - I will definately check out the HTR+, sounds like people here have had good experiences with them.
The Yoko ES100's look like great tires, but as Scrib says, I need something that works in the snow too (which I lived in FL, it is about 20 degrees here today.....um heated seats...)

I actually bought the YK420s and took them back after a week. They are by far the worst tires I have ever had --- it made the CLS feel like a lincoln town car (or worse). The reason you cant find them on most sites is because the 420 is specially (if you want to call it that) made for Discount Tire.

Glad to hear you cancelled the order..... smart move
