Yokohama es100 highspeed review

WOW.....i had a "friend" who has the tires on his car and he did a few high speed runs last night. My "friend" doesn't have any suspension mods aside from sway bars. DANG..... he says the car feels absolutely PLANTED. No jumpiness at all. He says he went up to 120....redlined 4th gear. He says his pretty impressed and the stability is likely due to the wider tire and rims. 235 + 8 inch wide rim.

I did right up to around 150 on the stockies... going straight is easy on most tires.

My "friend" did try them on twisties and they are fantastic. My "friend" will be putting out a video detailing his review of the tires soon.

Very flat cornering. No sidewall flex. Grip is nice. You can really push the tires and they respond. Of course my "friend" has a 6speed CLS with HLSD which in conjunction with the tires allows him to push it a little more than the average CLS.

btw- since both you and your "friend" have es100's maybe the both of you could give your opinion on the road noise compared to the stock tires?

Road noise is present. Something my "friend" had to get used to. But I also think it depends on the size of the tire you get. My "friend" has the 235 tire. He says it bothers him somedays but others it doesn't. The trade off is worth it in ihho.

OH also, he has also noted improvement in braking. MUCH better.

I'm running 225/40/18 with es 100's and don't notice the road
noise at all. And it sure is nice not to hear them squeal like a
pig in the twisties!

Ask your "friend" if the tires give some warning before they break loose completely under heavy corning. The stockies will squeal before the car breaks loose, but then again, the stockies squeal all the time. I like a little warning to let me know I'm at the limit.

I've got yokos on my vw bus, my brother has 'em on his tbird (IIRC he's running the Avids), and when I wear the stockies out, I think I'll go w/ the es100's.

I think the ES100s are a pretty decent tire. I had them on the track and they were pretty predictable at the limit, but when you really warmed them up, they lost grip. If you are looking for maximum grip, go with Kuhmo MX's or S03's.

And BTW.....They do squel quite a bit at the limit.

My "friend" says yes they do warn you before they break. They are quiet so when you hear the squeal you know it's because you are on them

I have these tires as well,..on stock wheels however. They are quite pleasant. Definitely better grip on turns. Everything feels more stable. However, I'm dropped on Eibach Pro-kit,.. ride still feels harsh on cracked roads.

Does anyone know if Koni yellows will improve the road feel.. I hate the vibrations from the road.

My brother has them on his M3. They are very sticky and wear well for the type of tire it is. I would personally try Kuhmo MX's. They are fairly comparable to S03's, but cost a substanial amount less. Grassroot's Motorsports did a test of KD's, MX's, and S03's and it was pretty impressive how well the MX's did.

interesting.....some people said the MXs are on the heavy side and so that's why i didn't get them. Although with a 235 tire i don't know how light of a tire was hoping to get anyway

I actually checked the weight of the Kumho MX against the Toyo T1s which is suposed to be a light tire. The Kumhos are only 0.2 lbs heavier in a 235/45/17. Funny these would be mentioned I have a set on the way to my house right now Along with a set of SSR Comps from the tire rack. I didn't want to look just like Zapata's so I'm going for anthracite on anthracite. I saw the anthracite comps on a dark grey (anthracite) M3 and it looked killer. I'll try to get some pics but I will be without center caps until November. Will also give a full report on the MXes. They are a sweet looking tire. $10 more than the ES 100s.

I think they're decent weight wise. 235/45/17 seems to be a hefty size though. The Toyos were like 23.8lbs each. 'bout time you put up some pics with the rims on. I'm sure they look sweet. Hoping the anthracites look good too. Not expecting a lot of wear out of the tires. They are a 220 TW rating which isn't horrible. Will probably do some autox on them and I love to hook corners so hopefully they will stick. I've noticed with summer tires that if you have a long wearing tire they tend to dry out and get hard before they wear out. Hoping these will last a few seasons then get something new.
