Easy steps for changing the Engine Oil/filter

Easy steps for changing the Engine Oil/filter:

Consumables you need:
1) New Engine Oil. I recommend Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5w30. 5 Qrts for like $18.88 at your nearest walmart. The CLS engine needs 4.6 Qrts when changing oil and filer. Keep the rest to top it off if the oil level gets low.
2) New Engine filter. I recommend Mobil 1 M-104 or Purolator PureOne PL14459.
3) New Drain plug washers from your dealer (for 20 cents each).

Tools you need:
1) a ratchet with 14mm socket. a 14mm closed wrench will work just fine too.
2) An Oil Funnel ( cost less $2)
3) A used Oil Container ( 6 qrts goes for like $4.99)
4) A Oil filter wrench ( goes for like $3.99)
5) A good set of 2 ramps.

Instructions:
1) Warm up your CLS for like 5 minutes.
2) Drive your CLS slowly over the ramps.
3) Shut off the engine.
4) Open the hood.
5) open the Oil filing cap
6) get under your car, Locate the engine oil drain plugs at the bottom of the Oil pan. (It is pointing to the back). Use the ratchet to loosen the plug. Position the Used Oil container to catch the spilled engine oil. Remove the Oil Drain plug. Reposition the container to catch the spilled engine oil.
7) Wait till engine oil is drained.
8) While waiting the oil to get drained. Use the Oil filter wrench and remove the oil filter.
9) Replace the filter with a new one. Lube the new filter's gasket with clean oil before screwing it on. Screw the new filter in hand-tight, then use the filter wrench to screw it another 3/4 turn, and no more than that.
10) Wipe the area around the Oil filter where the the oil has spilled with clean paper towel.
11)Back to Oil Drain Plug. Wipe the bottom of the oil pain. Replace the old crush washer with a new one. Replace the oil drain plug and hand torque it! Use the ratchet it to torque it a bit more like 1/4 of turn and no more.
12) Wipe the bottom of the oil pain again.
13) Use the Oil funnel and Fill 4.6 Qrts of the new oil.
14) Replace the Oil filling Cap.
15) Get the car off the ramps.
16) Keep the engine running for 5 minutes. Shut off the engine
17) Check the Oil level by looking at the dipstick.
18) Check for any leaks.
19) Remove the Used Oil Container and ramps, and tools and you are done.

All what you have to do now, is to go properly dispose the used engine oil and filrer by dumping it any collecting Auto Center. It is FREE!

nash: I dind't know not many ppl knew about tha 18.88 deal for Mobil 1 5 quart jugs. It's a steal considering they're usually about $5 a quart.

Also, I've been using the M1-105 and it's worked out great. More size = better in my book ...

this should be stickied

5qrt jugs at walmart for 18.88, just enough for an oil change

once you buy 12 five qrt jugs you'll have enough left over oil to do a oil change w/o buying more oil

1.

Just kidding, I beleive it's volume, 105 being "bigger or having more capacity. I don't know if the filter element/material is the same or not.

I do these exact steps but always end up with too much oil. I'll even let it drain for about ten minutes.

Oil filters:

Stock Size:
1) Pureolator PureOne: PL14459
2) Mobil One: M-104

Oversized Size (just more filter media and the by-pass valve works at higher PSI):
1) Pureolator PureOne: PL24458
2) Mobil One: M-105

You can also cross reference those filters if you like STP. FRAM etc....
