Exclamation yes i read the FAQ, clarification needed on keyless entry remotes...

ok, so i got my 2001 CLS one month ago, with only one key, and no remotes...

so i have been trying to figure out which type of FCC code will be the correct one for a 2001 CLS, i know (or at least im relatively sure) the '02 + '03's have the newer style FOBs that look like this

(the silver one)

and the older ones that i BELIEVE came with the '01's look like this

anyways, the silver one has a FCC id of e4eg8d-444h-a

and the older looking black ones have a FCC id of e4eg8d-443h-a

so if a member with a 2001 CLS will clear up which FOB he/she has and which one works, that would be highly appreciated....the FAQ says the e4eg8d-444h-a is the correct one as quoted by the mod fuzzycls when a member with a 2001 asked which one would work...but this is just to make sure cause i was sent a FOB that has that FCC code and its not programming...so i wanted to make sure that i have the correct FCC code, and that i dont need to actually have the e4eg8d-443h-a(older one/black) instead of the e4g8d-444h-a(newer one/silver) THANKS!

I just programed mine the other week.

I think here is how it goes:

-point remote at your reciever (driver's door near locking mechanism [not the lock/unlock button, but the actual lever])
-click first button on remote
-start engine
-click 1st button
-turn off
-turn engine on
-click 2nd button
-turn off
-click 3rd button
-turn off
-start engine again
-turn off

all of this must be done within like 5 seconds of each action.

ANY remote for 01-03 CL TL are interchangeable end of story!.

This includes using 02-03 remotes(444h) on 01 cars, or the other way around.

I don't believe you have to start the motor. Just by turning it all the way over to the start position should suffice.

I can 100% confirm that the silver remote (FCC id e4eg8d-444h-a) WILL WORK on a 2001 CL. The original remotes (black ones) do in fact have an FCC id of e4eg8d-443h-a, but it doesn't matter. The two are interchangeable.

I liked the look of the silver ones, so I just bought one of those and programmed it into my car along with my original two black remotes.

So right now, I have 3 remotes programmed, one silver and two black.

If it's not working for you... check the battery in the remote and then make sure you are doing the programming sequence correctly.

well i mean, the little red light is lighting up...is that sufficient to show the battery has the proper amount of power? ill try changing out the battery anyways though...i tried the programming sequence like 20 times.....this is kinda ridiculous...ill try again after i replace the battery

lemme know if you get it to work! thanks

Where are you pointing the remote when you program it? The reciever is next to the glove box, not on the door like was posted above.

What worked for me:

• Turn the ignition switch on. (Note: This is the III position, and you do not have to start your car)
• Push the remote lock button with remote aimed at the rec. in the passenger multiplex unit. (This is by the glove box).
• Turn the ignition switch off.

Repeat. On the third time you should hear the locks click. Within 10 sec. aim the other remotes (up to three) at the receiver and press the lock or unlock buttons. When you do this each remote should be locking/unlocking the doors.

• Turn off the ignition and remove the keys.

Since it's RF, it really shouldn't matter where you point it as long as you're inside the car. Just for shits n giggles I went to my car and reprogrammed my 3 FOB's and pointed them towards the rear window and they all worked. Sounds like you just got a dud key FOB. The black and silver ones with that FCC will mos def work.

mine worked. i bought a 02-03 4 button remote (the one with the trunk option) for $18 off ebay in excellent condition (yeah.. i found a steal). i programmed on an 01 CL with the instructions provided in the thread and it workeddd. it did take a few times to get use to the process to get it to work successfully though. i opened my glove box to do it, and i had to repeat the first step about 4 times until i finally heard the unlock click (instead of 3 times).

thanks for the help

YOU ARE THE MAN ....the key..(no pun intended) ladies and gentlemen, was to open the glovebox...

i went downstairs as soon as i saw this, told my friend to sit in the passenger seat and click the button everytime i turned on the car while aiming it inside the open glove box....Thanks a lot to those of you whom replied to this thread and helped to solve my keyless entry issues, Acurazine FTW.

i only got one key from the original owner too, and i plan on getting another. i searched the forums a few days ago and saw that a few dealerships charge about $25 cut and programmed (b/c of the immobilzer, the top black part of the key). call around your local dealership and get a quote, cause they might get shady on you

Transmitter FAQ?

Can someone please post a link to the FAQ on the keyless entry system.

I'm looking for answers to:

How can I tell a #1 from a #2?

Will the earlier black transmitters work with my '03 CL? (the silver ones get scratched up so easily).

If I can use an earlier transmitter, how do I ID it? Part number or FCC code?

Thanks

I don't have a link to any FAQ, but I can easily answer your questions.

You can tell #1 from a #2 by looking on the back of the fob. It will be printed Driver 1 or Driver 2. This is hard-coded and not something that can be changed by reprogramming. Thus a Driver 1 fob is always driver 1 and Driver 2 is always driver 2 unless someone swapped innards.

Yes, earlier grayish remotes are interchangeable with the newer silverish ones. As long as the remote is for the 2001-2003 CL, they are interchangeable.

The part number for the dark gray earlier remotes are:

72147-S3M-A11 Driver 1
72147-S3M-A21 Driver 2

Thanks Megatron :-)

I have been doing a lot of searching and reading since I made my earlier post.

Since the #1 or #2 was long ago worn off on my fob, I simply set the seat in my car at forward position and programmed it to position #2, then at my regular position, which I programmed as position #1. After setting my fob to control the seat/mirrors presets, I determined that my fob was a #1 by observing what the seat did after I unlocked the car and opened the door.

I ordered a used #2 fob on Ebay for $22.

My next problem is:

I got only one key with the car, so I ordered a new blank transponder key on Ebay for $9, and a new blank valet key from Acura Carland for $16.

Once I get them, I need to know how to program them after I get them cut.

Does anyone have a link to the key programming instructions?

Thanks
