Ordered the XS power headers last night will be my second power mod Just wondering on a scale 1-10 how difficult is it getting the rear manifold off?

 

would it be easier to loose the rear manifold bolts through the top or bottom which is the best angle?

 

Asking anyone who has installed these before how long did it take?

 

I had the engine out when I installed mine. Sorry can't help.

 

It's not too bad. I did almost everything from under the car.

 

did mine in car. rear isnt bad. need a long extension to get a couple of the lower bolts. you can get most from the top though. make sure you leave it all loose and bolt down pipe on then tighten the manifolds to heads. mine didnt quite line up but i kinda forced it together and it got positioned into place.

get some PB blaster on the bolts prior as well.

 

got it on the front bolts last night couldn't really get in there with the PB on the rear ones

 

Had no idea these would be shipping from China! I read another thread on here but cant seem to find it but someone was saying I should use different hardware for the bolts cause their cheap, does anyone know the size? I should have them on Tuesday

 

You can use the supplied stuff. They're just bolts and nuts.

 

I bought mine years ago and the bolts that came with it were a size smaller in diameter than the holes in the collector flange. Like a 8mm bolt for a 10mm hole. It's been too long ago to remember what size they were but I had some in my box of extra bolts that fit perfect. If yours fit right, there's no reason not to use them.

 

might want to go to honda and pick up the correct nut and bolts for the headers. It would suck if a stud or bolt broke in the cylinder head.

 

No they use the same head studs. The bolts and nuts connect the collectors to the j-pipe, which are completely different from the OEM setup that uses studs.

 

i used the supplied hardware. no issues on initial install, but after some miles and an engine swap 2 broke. no big deal though.

 

Get 6 good grade 8 bolts like stated above (10x40 works as well) and have a less than 5 dollar piece of mind-- fsttyms1

for some reason I cant paste the thread on here but some people also said they had no problem using the supplied hardware

They're not the same hardness as the factory bolts. The factory bolts are a couple dollars. It's worth the investment as is going and buying the factory gasket instead of the garbage one included.

 

Like I said previously, you can't use the factory bolts for aftermarket headers. The OEM exhaust manifold has studs that thread into one side, but aftermarket headers don't have those threads.

I got the headers in yesterday I will be installing them this Friday

 

so I know there is no using the factory bolts should I just use the ones that came with the headers? also which gasket should go with OEM or the new one with the headers?

First thing i am going to say is whoever thinks using the china crap hardware is a moron! whoever reads this and wants to install headers on their car GO GET NEW HARDWARE! so after about 6 hours i got em installed and it is a 2 person job cant do this by yourself. The part that took us so long I stripped a rear heat shield bolt and after trying to get it off with a gator grip socket(which is a piece of junk) it just rounded it even more so last resort was to cut it off with a dremel. after that everything was a breeze. now putting everything back together was simple just retrace your steps and keep everything loose until it all bolt have been put back in and then tighten everything back up. oh and if you can spray PB blaster on everything its a time saver! After getting everything back installed of course had to taker the car for a rip first thing i noticed it is more of a linier modification not something that will throw back in your seat but i cant feel a difference in acceleration so i am happy with this mod just wish i should have went with my instinct and got new hardware

 

yay vtec now I gotta install this on my pilot along with RL camshaft and camshaft spacer for the j35a4

 

gives the motor some extra roar to the sound as well.

 

nothing wrong with hardware once again. also, you can do it solo. ive done it before a few times.

 

are you 6speed? headers are next on my list and im going to try to not spend an arm and a leg?

Must be a decent product if the pricetag has doubled in the past few years.....I see Manzo headers on ebay for 130 shipped but will they fit the 6 speed? .....and anyone know how the quality is?and for twice the cost id probably get the tried n true (xspower) anyways.

 

the manzo ones fit has the bend for the rear mount... they honestly probably the same headers as the xs power/s-rs etc etc..

 

I remember getting OBX headers back in the day. You're gonna need a supercharger after this if you want any more power that significant enough to feel from the seat of the car.

 

yeah i found obx headers for around 400$. they look a little better but is it worth the extra $? doubt it. lol i already want a sulercharger....just dont want to have to mess with tuning etc etc.....so 4" intake and headers for now....

 

I did it by myself.

 

I just installed the manzo headers this week. The supplied gaskets don't fit. The grooves in the down pipe for the gasket are smaller than the gasket. The OEM Honda gaskets don't fit either. They're too small to fit in the grooves. They do fit with the six speed in my odyssey though. I'm more than likely going to pull these for better quality headers in the future. For now, I just want to get it on the road.

 

I bought DC headers on ebay for 265, just worrying about them cracking.
