Xm Rocks!!!!!

Ok first mod on the new VW is in .Now I realize my VW is not the regular fare here but I for those of you considering XM I would have to say it is a terrific choice .
Alan from New York Autosounds set me up with a Pioneer reciever a cool antenna (one of the little ones) and a Blitzsafe adaptor so the XM signal can be sent right through the existing CD changer harness in the trunk .
The install was easy being virtually a plug and play proposition .This weekend I will modify the useless ashtray to be the new home for the control box ( i ran out of time today to accomplish that) .
But ofcourse the performance is awesome with great digital sound that just never fades out .It cost about 10 bucks a month plus a one time activation fee .Not having to listen to any disc jockeys prattle on endlessly about who knows what is worth ten bucks all on it's own .Not having to dial in 3 different stations on the way to work is nothing short of miraculous .

I got Itunes on my mac, pretty cool the way stations are set up. Gotta look into that though, maybe on the next whip.

Man I've been wantign to get that but I can't make up my mind which head unit to go with for my system; Pioneer or Kenwood; Siruis, or the other crap.

If u think that is sick just wait till manufactures intergrate the antennas from XFM to satilite TV. We both know that there is mobile satilite out for SUVs already, and u don't have to be stationary to view channels. Although it is pointless to have it if u live in wooded or tunneled areas.

I have XM (pioneer) on both of my cars (had it installed at Circuit City). To say I love it is an understatement. When I travel to family, I cross sections of the country where there are no FM channels worth listening to and you tend to get tired of the hearing the same CDs over an over again.

When they installed the XM on my CLS, though, they put the antenna on the trunk (magnetic) and it seems to have a lot more occurances of 'no signal' than my other car, which has a different model antenna and that antenna is located on the roof.

I love my XM..the antenna could go, I would like a smaller one, but hey. The CDA-7998 is a great deck, now I just need to figure out a way to get XM at work without paying the extra $6.95

Sirus is the way to go. Commerical free I don't believe XM can make that claim.

I was extremely disappointed with XM Radio when I tried it in the 04 RL and even on the RL's stock Bose system you could hear the lower quality of XM compared to FM or CDs.

Even though it's nice to have dance/trance/comedy stations on my car radio which I can't get from FM, the quality wasn't good enough that I would PAY MONEY for it.

If I wanted low quality I'd encode my mp3s in 128kbps or 160kbps because that's how poor XM sounds on decent speakers.

HMMMM dunno Jrock maybe that RL had issues as every XM or SIrius reciever i have heard makes FM look like Am and is equal to a CD.Besides I would pay ten dollars a month just to not have to hear some moron disc jockey drone on and on .
Sirius is not commercial free either by the way the guy that works next to me has it and it too has commercials.

I will NEVER pay for radio unless it is 100% commercial free.
Even then I probably wouldn’t. I’ve got over 1500 CD’s I can listen to.

XM is great. 10 bucks a month is nothing compared to what you get. One of my favorite channels is 47 (Ethel).

Jens... why dont u just put your reciever here...

i gotta stop being cheap and go out and get the Blitzsafe cable.

I used to be one of those "XM" nonbelievers...I thought paying for radio was ridiculous.

However, if you've ever traveled from Washington, DC to Western PA, you know that there is absolutely nothing worth listening to while you travel over the mountains (an many times the radion stations suck here, too)! The first time I made a complete trip without changing the radio station and liking what I was hearing (during the entire trip), I was a changed man!

I find that the XM sound is on par with CD's but I think the quality you hear is more due to the radio than the quality of the XM signal. My VW has VW's Monsoon sound system and XM sounds awesome i that car! The amplification of the bass is much less in the Acura...but that's just how the stock stereo is.

YuppieCL,I have a VW Golf GTI so no overhead cubby my sunroof motor lives there instead .However my cigarette ashtray was sacrificed (no loss I quit !!! ) tonight ,I cobbled up a nice bracket for it and sunk the whole apparatus in there .Now when I am not using it the original slide door simply hides it from sight and dust .
ShawnS ,I gotta a ton of CD's too but i hate dragging the damn things out plus i like not knowing what song is next .
