x3 or fx or freelander
x3 or fx or freelander
anyone drive all three of these vehicles? i have had my eye on the x3, but the fx is tempting with its value and the freelander looks like a versatile thing.
the big thing for me is the performance. Im also looking for comfort, refinement, and a brand name!
which one would you choose??

I think I'd choose the FX over most any SUV out there. The Tuareg would be on the list too, but I really like the sporty look of the FX.
The Freelander looks like an Escape with Range Rover badges, and the X3 doesn't come with a V8.

I was behind a guy who was test driving an FX35 yesterday and I must say that the VQ engine, even moreso in the FX, has just a sickly, raspy, annoying exhaust note. I noticed that the first time I was in my buddy's Z. They need a new exhaust or something because that thing just sounded tinny with no bass.
has anyone driven all three?
i know the numbers on the spec sheet looks great for the fx but bmw is known for performance. i would expect the freelander to drive and feel like a ford explorer but since its made my land rover it has to be better, right?

Not much to comment on the first two, but from looking and driving it, the Freelander is an overpriced and underpowered piece of shit.
The X3 is overpriced -- never drove one though. I think the FX looks like it was created by a retarded ten year old that likes space movies, so also never drove one.

I can't say that I am a fan of the X3 styling, granted I saw one in person yesterday and it looked better than in pictures, I still don't like it. Also I have heard that the X3 has a horrible suspension, appearently you bounce around all day in that thing, VERY stiff. But, I have heard the same thing about the FX (with 20's) as well. Personally, I like a stiffer suspension, so that wouldn't bother me as much. I would tend to stray away from the Freelander due to Ford/Land Rover reliablity.
If it were my choice
1). FX -- I think it looks sweet, standard xenon, available V8, optional 20's, nice enough interior
2). X3 -- BMW performance, spotty build quality (according to Car and Driver), BMW engine
3). Freelander -- Land Rover....hmm...
And I think that the FX35's exhaust sounds good

I'd definitely go with the FX... Great performance, good looks and overall just a nice truck.
The X3 is also pretty nice, but it sort of looks cheap and small on the outside. I'd much rather have an X5 personally.
Freelander I heard is a POS and not really in the class as the other two.

WOW u r the first one who said Z , G, FX35 have annoying exhausts tone...
They need a new exhauts like a corolla that has no sound at all....
and to those who say FX 35 is underpowered.. shit.... it will smoke most of the V6 SUVs and it handles better than most of them too....
I've read my fair share of car reviews...
X3 - Quality not up to BMW standards, loaded it is close to 45K (can buy something way better for that kinda of money)
Freelander - Crap, just a fancy escape/tribute, not a real land rover, nor worth the money

FX - we are buying one (for the wifey) next year! I think the V8 is a waste of money, but the V6 is good value!

Same here.... this spring we'll probably go drive one and pick it up for the wife. Those things are badass
