X-Pel Clear Bra
X-Pel Clear Bra
Just spoke with an installer of the X-Pel Clear Bra and got a price of $412 for a full install including; bumper, hood, mirrors, a piece under the door handles, and he will cut piece for a door edge guard. He said he will try to come to my home to install it on Saturday, but if not he will come on Wednesday. If anyone is interested let me know.

DOES ANYONE HAVE PICS of these clear bra deals???? I drive over 90 miles a aday and my entire bumper/hood was all scratched up and such. I need protection, but don't want to hurt the image of the car by wrapping it in some clear condom.
How does it look? Does it look like good? Bad? I keep hearing about these clear bras (and the price is OUTRAGIOUS!!!!!!) and wanna know what they look like installed on the car.

Well they are ummm clear, they don't really look like anything. If you look closely you can see where the decal ends, on the X-Pel it ends about 1/4" away from the edges of the hood/bumper. The only problem I can see is that dirt will accumulate at the edges but it shouldnt be that big of a deal if you clean it often, or if you leave your car dirty you probably wouldnt care anyways.

They are fine. It looks like someone but a think piece of clear tape on the paint. They don't discolor or anything. They are good - they are expensive. If I could find a good installer, I would do it for the black car...

Do you have any links to the manufactures of these bras?

This is the website for the X-Pel bra, http://www.xpel.com/paint/acura.html For the Stongard the website is http://www.stongard.com/sgcontent/default.asp The price difference between the two are very large. The only difference I've heard of is that the X-Pel has two small 1/16" relief cuts on the side of the bumper to account for the sharp angles while the Stongard is heat molded. I am getting the X-Pel installed for the cost of the Stongard kit.

Does anybody remember the name of the product that they were showing at the LA Auto Show downstairs next to the Alhambra Acura CL-S?
They had an Acura CL-S from Sierra/Alhambra Acura with the clear tape on the front, sides, and mirrors. I lost the card of the guy who installed it. He was located in Los Angeles. I thought the stuff was made by 3-M.
Anybody know?

Both X-Pel and Stongard use 3M materials. X-Pel gave me a sample and on the backing it has the 3M logo all over it. X-Pel says it is 10 mil thick, and I can't tear it by hand. Stongard says theirs is a different 3M material that is 9 mil thick but conforms better then X-Pels. Hopefully I will be able to have my X-Pel installed Wednesday. If you want I can post the name and number of the two guys that I have spoken with. Or you can call the number on the websites and they will give you their names and numbers.

My Car
Well I'm in Southern California in the Orange County area. If anyone wants to meet up and see the X-Pel bra on my car after I get it installed I'd be willing to cruise by, any chance to drive my car. But I also have the names and numbers of a couple of installers for both types, I've made about 5-6 calls to different installers and I've settled on a guy out of Mission Viejo who does mobile installations.

I am planning on getting it too, but there are suprising only two places in Houston that sells and installs the X-Pel. It was $378 for installing Hood/Bumper. I do not asked about the headlights/mirror. Hopefully he give me a deal.

Also how long will this bra last? I hope for $300+ this think lasts a few years.

My post from last October: (note: this is not x-pel or stonegard but a different custom installation product)
After getting a dozen rock chips on one 2-hr stretch of gravelled road last winter I wanted some protection this year. These pictures show before and after (commercial) installation of a product called ClearBra. I got full protection - it covers the headlights, grill, fenders, hood and below the door crease. The picture titled Door1 shows a good close-up: ClearBra is on the fender but not on the door (above the crease). The stuff is about the thickness of two business cards.

This cost me $1200 but you can do as little as wanted - protecting just the first foot of the hood is $199. It has a very high gloss and they recommend not applying wax. If you are a Zaino fan this is likely not for you. At one angle under some conditions I can see a slight ripple in the finish but overall I like the result in gloss and protection.
The web site at ClearBra.net has more info. (ClearBra.com is a competing product from 3M).
