WTF? Mileage ?

I just took an 800 mile road trip yesterday and got only 28 mpg. I read on some other posts that some people got mileages in the 30's. Is there something wrong with car? I cruised at approximately 75-80 mph with the AC mostly OFF. BTW, there is no substitute to new tires and springs.

I believe it driving like "Granny". Remember, you have to take into consideration, altitude, climate, humidity, terrain etc....28 isn't bad. How many miles on your car, if not many, that explains it. It only get's better with these cars !

LOL. Sorry it does sound like I'm bitchin but I was just wondering what's up with the 30+mpg (gas ain't cheap!). I have just under 13K miles and the car said it was 50 degrees out. The drive was from Seattle to southern Oregon (mainly flat and a little mountain here and there).

What Fab said.

When I got my 31mpg I kept it at 65 the whole way and didn't use the a/c.

cmark,
I still haven't been able to break 28 with my mpg's either. On highways, i drive around 75-80 mph. During the winter, i was averaging a little over 19mpg.

Maybe the tires you have account for the slightly lower gas mileage. After all there is more rolling resistance and a stickier tire than the OEM tires. I took an 800 mile trip a couple of weeks ago and I got just over 32mpg with my stock tires.
