WTF is with this board?

Many times I go to read a thread and none of the newer replies are listed. IE i just went to look at the 'who is going to the big ass how in texas on sat.' thread. It said there are 20 replies and I only see 3. I hit refresh a million times and nothing happens. What gives?

The old page is stored in your cache. Hit refresh after you load the page and you'll have the replies.

Sounds like you may behind a cache or proxy server of some kind.

If you use Internet Exploiter, check your Internet Options and click "settings" in the Temporarary Internet files. Chekc the setting for "check for new versions of stored pages" and make sure it's set to Automatic. Anyone know how to do somehting similar to Netscrape?

I don't know what setting to change, but if you hold SHIFT while hitting refresh, it clears the cache for that page and will display the most updated view.

Works in both IE and Netscape.

CTRL+F5 doesn't help? (That's probably the keyboard equivalent of what mcdanjw suggested though.) If it doesn't refresh, WebToker is right.

Try this: go to Tools->Internet Options, click on the Connections tab at the top of the dialog box, then click the LAN Settings button. If the "Use a proxy server" setting is checked, uncheck it, click OK twice, restart IE and then see if you can access the current page. If there are problems, go back in and re-check that proxy server setting and restart IE.

same shit happens to me when I use explorer. I have to use netscape and push reload. Are you on a Mac? I am so I'm just wondering if it is a flaw with using explorer.

You must be right b/c I have this problem too, but only at work. None of the things mentioned really help, just hitting refresh like 15 times.

I've wanted to mention a problem like this as well, but didn't want to piss anyone off. Whenever I post a new reply and it says it's taking me back to the post, it won't show my post, EVEN when I hit the 'car talk' go button, which should ALWAYS REFRESH the car talk page, and it'll say I replied so it did indeed refresh it, but when I go into it after seeing that I have replied, it still won't show up, until I do this repeatedly over three or more times. Doesn't make any sense. I shouldn't have to hit ctrl + F5 or shift or anything to clear any kind of cache. No other boards that I go to require this. It automatically takes me to my new reply after posting and it'll automatically refresh the forum page whenever I hit the "go" button next to whatever forum I'm trying to go to, be it car talk here or accord v6 at SHO. Really weird to me, not my computer's problem because no other websites do it, guess this website doesn't the most up to date features, though it's more of a cheez whining nuisance than a critical problem...

That's the same as hitting refresh, doesn't work at my job, unless I hit it like 15 times.

As mentioned by others, it does sound like you are behind a Cache server. Check with your ISP to see what and how they are cacheing.

I've been through this before and got isolated from Cacheing...

I don't remember exactly where it is but there is an option in your IE5 options that let you refresh everytime you view the page. That will solve the refresh problem...I think. It helped me.

P-Man, in the Internet options, Click "Delete files" under the Temporary Internet files section. Make sure to aslo delete the offline content. This should clear everything form your hard drive and make the browser start anew.

I even have my cache set to 0megs and it still does it. On the old board it did it as well and when we switched to the new board it didn't until we got the avatars. Then it stopped updating the page and I had to switch back to netscape.

Well this morning I can see all the replies. How nice. I tried just about everything you guys mentioned yesterday to no avail. I deleted my temp files, the 'use proxy server' was not checked, etc. The only thing I never tried was the shift/ctrl + F5. Oh well. . . Gald to see I'm not the only person with this problem.
