wrecked CLS
Tonight I was driving on Northern Blvd, in Queens NYC. I saw an accident at one of the intersections. A Silver CL-S rear-ended a minivan. It looked like the front of the CL went under the minivan bumper. The entire front and hood was crumpled and the engine was smoking really badly. The damage looked REALLY bad. The minivan had a small dent on the bumper.
I feel really bad for whomever that was. I just want you to know, I feel your pain. I just have doubts now about the strength of our car. If it would get wrecked like that in a small fender-bender, what would happen in a bigger crash?

Because you were there and saw the accident happen and know it was a slow impact.
OMG OUR CAR IS MADE OF SOFT CARDBOARD AND MY TRANSMISSION IS GOING TO FALL OUT AND ITS GOING TO EXPLODE AND OMG I FEEL SORRY FOR EVERY CLS OWNER BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING TO DIE FROM THEIR CAR WHEN IT GETS HUNGRY AND EATS THEM INSIDE THE SEAT AND

The minivan only had a small F$*#ING dent on it's bumper. That's all. The CL's hood was crumpled so badly it cracked the windshield. It's bumper was on the street.
Yes, I think that makes our car a little weak. Can you imagine if we got into a head-on with an Expedition?

Jesus - here we go AGAIN with this damned "our car is weak because it crumples" shit.
Here's the deal - in explicit detail again.
Crumpling is a GOOD thing. Crumpling disapates the impact energies over a greater distance and time, thus decreacing the decelerative forces your body takes. (BTW for the physics-ignorant, that's a GOOD thing)
Also, it means nothing that the minivan didn't have more damage - the rear of them is not designed to crumple much because of the possibility of there being a passenger in the rear.
Last, you even said that the CLS looked like it went under the minivan - hence the crumpled hood. That means the main unitbody structural members were probably fine.
