Would you take the chance??

I will be looking for a new(used) car later this year. I was looking at TSX, but I don't think I will be able to find a used 2004 at a good price (<20K). I looked as used IS300, but I think they are a little ricey. The CL-S would be a good option, but I am concern about all the tranny issues.....eventhough it does have a warranty until 100K. Does the CL-S have any other problems?

Would you take the chane on a used CL-S??

If you buy a 6 speed manual I say definitely yes. I love my 6 speed, but I never considered getting an automatic. 2 totally different cars IMO. But get what you like. Depends on your tolerance for having an auto tranny fail and be replaced and possibly fail again is the question. otherwise it's the best roomy coupe out there, and loaded.

I have a 2001 CL-S and a 2003 IS300. If it were my money I would be looking for a good used 2002 IS300. Build quality of the Lexus is so much better than the Acura.

I used to have a 03 CLS auto, now I have a TSX. TSX is great, and quite a bit cheaper to own but if you're willing to buy used, go with the 6sp CL. If you don't want the 6speed, I would personally think twice about buying a used CL-S, and get something else.
Check out www.acura-tsx.com - there are a few threads about used TSXs and their prices if you're going that route. The IS300's design isn't my cup of tea, especially inside. Your tastes may vary. Finding a used TSX in good shape for $20k may be hard, but you may be able to find an 01 IS300 if you don't mind the ricer look and horribly ugly interiors.

"Would you take the chane on a used CL-S??"

It all depends on how many miles you drive a year and how many miles the CL-s your going to purchase has. If drive alot of miles and your looking to keep the car long term then this would probably not be the car to you.

I had a TSX for a few days, nice car, great for getting around town. only think i did not like about it was you can only put 91 octane in, i really dont get that at all considering its similar to an Accord.

And as far as finding a TSX around 20K your to be waiting a while, if you find a TSX with around 10000miles, figure you would be saving about 2-3K, u might want to try your local acura and see if they have a Loaner TSX that they might sell. I was offered 1 at my dealer but i'd probably go with a TL with Navi, as i enjoyed the one i had when my tranny failed.

If i had a chioce between the TSX and IS300 i'd go with the TSX

My transmission is ok and I have 74k miles. You could get lucky and find a CL-S auto and it will be ok like mine is (so far).

I had an 01 Integra GSR before the CL and it also got stolen. I miss that car.

69K miles on my '01-s, never let medown, original tranny, no mechanical problems except rotors which plague almost everyone.

on the one hand this is a honda and most of them are reliable, but the AT is russian roulette. why take the risk? -- get the MT.

MT is the way to go

although u may end up with a good AT and we may be wrong... but trust us, the AT has many problems. im on my 4th at 62k miles... but then again im not a typical example.

Are you contemplating using the lemon law to get Acura to buy yours back?

the CL's tranny problems are all covered by warranty/recall. Unless you buy a used CL with 100k miles you're fine. I've had mine replaced twice and I still love the car.

a manual would be more fun though...
