Would an H3 halogen bulb melt the road lamp housing?
If an H3 Halogen bulb were retrofit into the stock road lamp housings would they be too hot and melt? H3s are around 68W.
I know they won't fit without modification. Thanks.

Stock H3 are 55W unless you're looking at other-than-OEM brand, which I highly recommend against due to tolerance in manufacturing quality. Yes, they will melt due to the plastic design and covering of road housings. H3s are typically fog light bulbs which have no tip-dipped shielding at the top, thus it would cause a lot of glare and not throw the light where you need it, down on the ground. H3s are generally encapsuled in spherical, glass housings with a sharp vertical to horizontal cutoff.
My suggestion... fab a glass shield inside the road lamp housing & add the bulb. Add relays to prevent fried wiring and bamm! Functional and sweet looks!

The bulb will be covered by a glass housing from a Lexus OEM yellow fog light (a la GS 430) Do you think this would prevent it from melting?
I could probably go with a 55w then right?
