Is it worth spending $4700 for more power??
the local shop i go to in town is an authorized comptech seller. The shop owner quoted me for $4700 for the supercharger tranny cooler, battery, plugs, etc.
Now is it really worth investing $4700 for a 35-40 hp on a cl-s auto???
what should i do???

It really depends on if you are planning on keeping the car for some time. If you like the cars the look and feel, etc. and will keep it for two or three more years and the money is not an issue then yes; it is well worth it.
Don't look at the peak numbers only even though I believe it is closer to 40 - 45 WHP gain on the 5AT. Look at what it does for everyday driving. Pulling away from a stop at part throttle provides effortless acceleration.
If you don't really care too much for the car and/or will be getting rid of it in a year or so; then don't do it. This is when it is not worth it.

I recommend you look at your Financial well-being, if you have money to play then I am sure you would of not thought twice about purchasing it....(Example: children, wife, IRA)

also i d add it's not just the initial 4700$,but the potential the blower buys you...i'd say with some upgrades like the pulley computer and b pipe one could see more like 75+ whp accross the board...with traction that's a 12 second car

typeR and darrinb are right, the blower as well as the 3.5 set the foundation for even more power options. So many mods, these cars are great! Turbo would be nice too, right Titand19?

Is it worth it to hop up a CL ,well that depends on you really .Do you want to be accepted by the masses? or do you want to drive something that makes a statement .
I saw a very clever and very true advertisement the other day in my copy of Yachting .It was from Rolex ,in it they say the following :
"The Rolex Sydney Hobart yacht race WILL NEVER DETERMINE who you are .It will ,however, remind you .
Above these words is a picture of a yacht ,below them is a picture of a Rolex .
Stop following the sheep ,look at what guys like Scalbert do with their homecooked intercoolers now that is a statement .
Nuff said ,Jens

I personally dont think it's worth $4700, but that also depends on how much $$ you have to blow. For $4700 you could get a high mileage fox body mustang and throw a crate engine in it and run low 12's easily, and then you'd still have you CL-S under warranty and 100% reliable for transportation.

I personally don't think its worth it. After you've got all the bolt-on’s there's really no need to get the S/C. If you want even more power then its time to trade up. However on the other hand if you know your gonna be keeping this car for awhile then perhaps it might be worth it.

In my opion, I don't feel CT SC gives you the value for your dollar. I think Motor Trend tested a CT SC of CLs some months back. The relative small gain in hp and the decrease in ET is really not significant to speak about. For five grand to get that kind of improvement, it is not worth it My 0.02

I used to think so, but then i started thinking about other project's. My dsm cost me $2800. For another 2 or 3 g's, i should have a 12 second car. Maybe give or take another G or 2. My shit's AWD too. So no spinning tires at the line. I loved my acura, but i had to look at reality and had to realize that it is still a sports/luxery car. It's a sweet car if you drop it and add an intake and exhaust, but to really start doing motor work, it's not really worth it after a while.

For those who feel it is not worth it I suggest you re-read this: Supercharger Myths In particular, look at the chart.
For those who say that there are better machines to go fast; I agree. That is not the purpose of the installation for those of us who have installed the blower. At the same point and IMO, headers should even been less likely to be installed with this train of thought as their benefit is only at high revs when you really are racing or driving like it.

In other words, it provides what most want from it; enhanced street ability.

I have decided to sc at the 100k mark in 1.2 years. My car is paid for now and I will save up the $3.5k (my labor included) for this upgade. I am hoping to have a new feeling car and that will save me $35k on a new car. I keep cars for 200k and this sounds like a fun mod. FUN is what we all need more of. By the way Jens nice write up. And will a 04TL trans fit in my 01 also does it have a factory trans cooler,, I know I have asked this before.

man this is so tempting but i cant decide
$4700 is a lot of money for this mod. the car is paid off and sometimes i feel like getting rid of the car and sometimes i feel like keeping it for years.
i think realisticly i will be keeping the car for at least another year or two but im so power hungry.
i can and can not afford this mod. i have no bills but i really want to save money for later. but i have never purchased anything this big before (my parents bought me the cl-s) so i dont know what to do!

If you get a cheaper second car and mod it to make it real fast, that's cool, and you can mod away without worrying about comfort and everyday driveability
If you mod the CL, then what you have is a more fun, even faster luxo cruiser. It won't be as fast as a stripped down, pure muscle car, but it will have the creature comforts and style of the CL, now with even more power. You can have it all, the power and the style/comfort.
Either choice is great, and life is short, do whichever makes you happy!

Do you mean it's not enough HP gain?
Do you have an auto?
Do you have $4700 to blow?

OK I'll be the first one to bring it up, since I've been in a 2002 CL-S with it installed, and saw the benefits. How about Nitrous Express? get 50 HP that way and spend about 3700$ less.

2) Yes.
3) Yes. And have wrestled with the S/C question myself. If I had 6-speed I'd be down with it. But with auto I just don't see it.
I'd rather get a 2nd car like an s2000, and rig *it* with the S/C.
