winter oil..

well it's almost winter season and I was wondering what everyone was using as oil in their engines?

I'm running 5w20 right now ... we donl't get that cold in tx.. just 50s and 40s at worst... what do you northerners run?

I've been using Mobil-1 0W-20 since the changeout of original fill that came with the car.

I had my oil analyzed last week (after traveling the summer on it) and the report came back that the oil was working exceptionally well and would be good for 10000 miles (with filter changes midway).

The insolubles were surprisingly low. Most measurements were coming back perfect. The analysts were surprised at how well it measured.

I was worried about 20 weight use over the summer and this report lets me know that 0W-20 works great in the heat of the summer. Of course, 0W-20 will be excellent for the winter since there isn't anywhere in the US that I know of that would get colder than it can flow well at.

There are other good oils, but Mobil-1 0W-20 is testing out superbly in my 2003 CLS 6 speed and since I won't go over 7500 miles on an oil change, its longevity is better than I need. If there is a better oil, I don't need it.

I let the dealer change my oil when it's cold.

It's too cold to be on the ground in the winter.

resedaruss: that's what I do too... just change the filter at 5K milse and run it all to 10K. I'll start using the 0w-20 from now on. I've been running mobil1 5w20 ...
