Wing or No Wing?

So I just got a 01 Cl-S with 150K, Tafetta White with black Navi interior. Love this car and want to start doing tasetful upgrades. This model does not have a rear deck wing/spoiler. Been thinkiing about getting a OEM one with the led brake light. I'm totally on the fence tho, I see them with the the wing and they look good but a little cluttered. I see mine without the wing and it looks a bit naked. Whats the consensus?

no consensus, just opinions across the board. do what you like best.

3rd option: trunk lid spoiler from a bmw m5 (or the knock offs on ebay), see below.

If you go for the wing, the clear lens spoiler light would work great on the white.

I have a white 01 CLS and it has the OEM wing. I love the wing on the car. I think these things look extremely plain and bland without any sort of wing. I like some of the deck lid spoilers I've seen here on the forums, but my favorite is still the OEM wing. I really feel that it turns the rear end from "meh" to beautiful.

Anyone have a pic of a CLS White with the wing? I saw a charcoal on the fwy today and it looked pretty nice, but I dunno still. I kinda like the sleek look of no wing. The M5 wing is okay, but is so small doesn't seem like it ads much

With spoiler. The lip one just doesn't set the car off enough IMHO.
Also I'm not sure you can buy the clear brake light lense any longer. Or even the OEM spoiler kit.

im waiting for my roof spoiler to arrive, i think with the m5 spoiler and roof spoiler the rear end of the car will look perfect. after seeing how the mb cl rear looks with both i think the acura cl would look good.

When I had my white 2003 CL-S, and there was no way I was going to clutter up the clean lines of that car by screwing an unnecessary piece of elevated plastic into the trunk. And that's to say nothing of the double CHMSL issue you'd create. Even if you deactivate the window CHMSL, it's still there looking silly.

The m5 lip and roof spoiler in my opinion looks mean as hell. That's what I want to get on my tl. Then again, do what is unique to you and seperates your car from the rest.

Thanks for the pics and awesome thread. I think the wing looks good, but I think for now I'll just stick with it naked and get the 03 tailights.

+1

Also, it's likely to create a) more drag and wind noise; b) distracting reflections in the mirror; c) a desirable trophy for a thief; and d) cost actual money and time to install, while actually reducing resale value.

But, I still think Austin Taper's M5 lip looks pretty mean...

If you're talking about the OEM spoiler, Acura claimed it's functional (however much IDK). I can't say any wind noise generated by it is noticable at all. As for the mirror reflection, I've never ever once felt that it got in the way of visibility. As far as thievery goes, I still have mine. Resale value? I can't imagine why it would affect resale at all. IMO it's a desirable feature over no spoiler.

Extremely easy ^^

Painting it was the only expense, 3m tape to install.

That's an easy fix...remove the brake light...Takes all of 20 minutes.

I kind of like the red tails better, especially if the car is red. I think people just want the 03 tails because they are "newer" style. I do like the black headlight housings though.

Here's my ride. If you have black like me, you can tint the LED spoiler light and have it blend in to the spoiler.

None. I got the oem spoiler for my car when I bought it new, but I think they look better w/o a spoiler.

I'd take mine off, but then I'd have to fill in the holes in the trunk

I'm a fan of the no spoiler look. Much cleaner appearance.

Yes, Comptech. Took it off the car and it's sitting in the garage though. The tone was great but wanted something with a bit more sound. I'm running HKS Superdraggers now. They are louder with the same tone. Still bolt-on though so I love that.

Been almost 7 years since I got it and I've been modifying it since. It's ever evolving. I picked up a set of A-spec wheels just this summer.

man its all about the oem spoiler...

anyone ever attempted to put the tl a spec spoiler on the cl??

it has a red light on each side of the spoiler iirc that looks pretty cool as i have never seen another spoiler with that detail.

i personally would not like looking at my car if it did not have a spoiler. but that's just me. we're all different :-)
