Windshield Wipers

When i turn my windshield wipers on they make a loud slamming noise when they open up all of the way. It is like they want to go further than they can. It is really annoying and i should have taken care of this before winter. Does anyone have any suggestions so that it does not make any noises when i turn them on?

New windshield wipers...the rubber on the blades are just about dead. I change my blades when they start making that nasty sound.

Nope, its not the wiper blades. Tell me, is the wiper arm extending to far or is it not going far enough. Acura has shitty wiper blade parts connected to the motor. The way our wiper blade motor works is like a locomotive to turn the train wheels. What happens is, our cars have a plastic cap that is attached to the wiper blade arm and this will break over time, it is hit or miss with most cars.

All you have to do is take off the Cowl and keep taking apart things till u see a white plastic cap attached to the wiper arm, if this is cracked, this is your problem. It only costs 25 bucks to get the part from the dealership.

Ya i figured it had to be something because it has new blades on it already and it slams both ways when you turn up the speed of the blades.

i believe the 2001 CL/S has a problem with the windshield wiper arm mechanism which caused it to press into the windshield. you may need to replace it. look up the TSBs or something.

VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE WIPERS STREAKING OR SMEARING THE WINDSHIELD.

this problem is also addressed somewhere on these forums, i remember reading that dealers were replacing the parts with new ones bc the original one would press the wiper into the windshield.

i can't remember if it's the motor or the linkages.

Its a the not the wiper arm, its the linkage connected to the motor when you take the cowl off, you cant miss it.

Its a white piece of plastic that is pressed into the linkage arm, it looks like about a 2 foot piece of metal with white caps on both ends, kind of like a ball joint system. These caps will crack and cause the wiper arm to not have any control and will slam into the side post of the car when the wipers are on.

Its parts 11 or 12, if you look at those end caps, those are the things that crack.

I had this problem when I first got my CL. I took off the crappy wipers, installed RainX blades and it never made another sound.
