I live in NJ--I am going to be getting a 2001 silver/black cl-s in 2 days and I am contemplating having the windows tinted out....what is legal in NJ? (percentage wise)
Should I have the dealer do it? He quoted me a price of 250 dollars...these might be newbie questions but hey...I am a newbie

 

$250.00 sounds high. Shop arround and look for a local reference. It's not so much the material that is applied, but the person putting it on that makes the differance.

 

I paid $200 for an experienced person to do it, with the best materials. Key things that will help you know if the guy is experienced. He will ask you if you want to tint over the raised dots, or sand them down (I am talking about the top of the rear window). My guy was able to tint over it without sanding, and it hasnt bubbled. Also, he will take out the rear seats, take out the rear shelf, so that he can tint over the avoidance light. Also, ask him how close he tints to the top of the windows that roll up and down. The closer, the better & more confident he is. It takes quite a bit of labor to do. These are just my opinions, I took about 1 year to find the guy I'd let do it to my car ... I did 32%, 50% is legal, but you can't tell during the day really, and at night I have a plan devised when I see cops ...

 

I know a great guy here in Philly. He did an AWESOME job on my car. I got 5% tint all around. Its illegal, ive already gotten pulled over twice and got 1 ticket. He charged me $150. But he seriously did the best work i may have ever seen.
