Window Tint & Radar
Window Tint & Radar
Hey guys... I'm thinking of having my windows tinted, and have a few questions... First of all, How do I find out what the laws are in the state of Ohio? I was able to search around on google and find out the darkest you can get is 50% on the sides/rear. I was hoping I could get away with 35% and the cops wouldn't notice?
Anyways... What brand tint should I look for? Who should I have tint my windows? I asked the dealer and they didn't have any suggestions about who to go to (I know, wtf...). I'd kind of like a chain sorta place that would warranty their work.
I was also thinking of getting a Valentine 1 radar detector. How does tinting my windows affect the radar reception?
Thanks!

i got a V1 and just got my windows tinted, and i will try answer few of your questions:
i believe 35% is legal in most states..do a search on this forum. i believe someone had previously posted a link to the legal tint level in different states.
as far as what kind of tint, i believe major brands are reliable and offer lifetime warranty on metallic tints.
I went with NON-METALLIC tint. From V1's website site, it says specifically metallic tint kills V1's range. Although few people have said they've never expereince this problem with their V1, I didnt want to take any chances.
I went with Madico brand, they offer lifetime warranty for non-metallic tint too (for 2 ply). If you expose your car under the sun alot, non-metallic tint is very likely to turn purple in few years (i was told 5-8). but this is covered under the life warranty.
As far as the installer, hopefully someone will give you a reliable shop in your area. One thing i just noticed on my tint: on the back window, in the small area behind the break light, the installer left some dirty water streaks in that area. (i cant get in that area to clean it) it is not at all noticeable, but you might want to make sure the shop you choose doesnt make the same mess.
