Wind Noise

Has anyone noticed an "excessive" amount of wind noise in the CL-S, especially around 60-80 mph?? I've only had my CLS for about 2 months now so I'm still trying to feel it out.

Yes. Sounds like a leak of some sort in the driver side window. I haven't had a chance to take it in on that yet.

I don't think I've experienced that, I was referring more to wind noise from aerodynamics. Seems like it comes from the mirrors. I had a Grand Prix GTP before this car and the wind noise was much less than in this car.

it must be your car. This car is damn quiet at 75-80. TLS is the most quiet car at like 65 or something. Maybe CLS cockpit is smaller and thus louder? But i still think this car is pretty quiet.

One of the members, who is not around right now, ordered some 2002 (TLS?) mirrors for their CLS. They were buying them to cut down the wind noise...

I believe that some of the members had reported putting X-Pel on the mirror's (and even tape) to quite the noise. Air turbulence can make a lot of noise...

I notice wind noise around 80 mph but currently my driver side has a rattle. I believe that the door is not properly sealed correctly therefore for the wind noise. Need to take it in to the dealer.

It is so terrible, When i'm doing 140 there is soooo much wind noise. I mean you think Acura could have worked on that, DAMN

Nah it is all relative, 80 in my Jeep is loud, you can talk on the cell phone, 80 in the CL is quiet and smooth, 80 in the S500 feels like your sitting on your living room couch.

I get wind noise on the passengers side. Like your problem, it happens around 75-80 mph. I'm going to take it in sometime soon to see if Acura has a resolution.

HA! Good luck having the dealer take care of it.
Our car is DAMN noisy at freeway speeds compared to a BMW. The dealer told me all that wind I could hear was normal.
Our Big Ass mirrors might be part of the culprit, but probably not all.... Please post if your dealer has anything constructive to say.

i took it up to 100 very steadily on the I-5 carpool lane with
2 people riding with me and they didnt notice a thing until I told them we were goin 100.
hella smooth and quiet, of course the pavement in certain parts of orange county is exceptionally clean

on a straight downhill onramp sprint 0-80
with the roof fully open, the noise wasnt too bad either

I agree that the CL-S is very noisy at speed.
I thought it was too noisy the first time I test-drove it and I still think it is too noisy.

But to me it is minor compared to all the things I like about the car.

But drive a CL-S at 80 and then drive an ES300 at 80.
I know they are not direct competitors but Lexus has the wind-noise thing down pat. Acura could take a lesson on that one.

Just my opinion but like I said, I don't regret the purchase at all.

I don't think the problem is "wind" noise as much as it is road noise--in our car. I don't think there is much separating our car from the wheels and the pavement (insulation, I mean). But it is better than a lot of cars out there. The new TL and TLS are much better than the old ones--I was very impressed when I did a test drive earlier this year. But the TL, to me, has more wind and road noise than the CL does. By the way, if you REALLY want to hear wind noise, drive a VW New Beetle---I took one for a test drive this spring and drove it quickly back to the dealer and said 'no thanks'. I would have gone deaf taking that on a road trip.

Wind noise. Are you talking about driving with or without the roof opened? If opened then a roof deflector helps...quite a bit. I put one on a week after purchase and it made a big difference. Just two clamps and about $50 gets that done. (deflector detractors will not get a response from me).

As for wind noise without the roof open then as others have said its those huge side mirrors. Those mirrors are aligned just forward enough and high enough to not only give a huge blind spot but also a huge deaf spot. (Sorry about that? )
Loudest ones I've ever heard.

Good job changing them on the TL Acura. (do the new CLS have the new mirrors?)

Road noise. I don't see it. With my roof opened or closed my car is very quite at 70 or more. Say what you want about the OEM rubber it IS very quite. Propably will be dB's for me next.

I agree, I don't think there is to much road noise, mostly wind at higher speeds with the sunroof closed. I have been thinking about getting one of those deflector thingies, but haven't decided if I like the look or not yet. Do you have to get the dealer to install it or is it a do it yourself type job??
