Will this work

If I have too many points and my insurance wants to drop me and may lose my license in NJ. Could I "move" to georgia and get a license and get insurance down there as long as i prove residence?

yes, but if NJ police find out you are living in NJ but your plates are out of state you can get in trouble.

if your car is parked in a state more than 8 months per year you have to have it registered in that state, unless you are a student.

at least thats how most states I have lived in do it.

My brother has done that for years in Chicago. You need an address where someone can forward you your registration and such though. He didn't do it because of his license though so I don't know if that will accomplish what you're loking for. He just wanted to save on plates and insurance.

Yeah its easy to do, but if you get pulled over with out of state plates and the cop starts asking questions, you can get some serious fines.

I have out of state plates, and I have been grilled about it a few times. I can do it legally though because I go to school out here.

The fines might be better than no car though, if you do somehow get caught.

How about within the same state?

What "if" I "moved" to my friends house within the same state where insurance rates are cheaper? What would I need to do? Do I need to change my address with the DMV on my license? Or do I just need to change my address with insurance only?

NJ has the worst rates right now I am paying the best out of any of my friends (1800) full cov at 22 under my rents. I am going to take the class but they dont let you in NJ unless you have 4 or more. Currently I have 2 points and 4 pending moving violations. 2 of them are speeding 1 no blinker 1 improper passing. Havent seen any of these tickets yet bc they are in NY and they take soo long ot get back to you when u plead not guilty.

Try slowing down and obeying the laws.

Typical case is that you made your own bed, now you got to lie in it.

The answer is simple. Quit getting tickets.

If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.

Get it?

Obviously, but out of my 5 yrs of clean driving this is my first year of tickets and it has been a horrible one.

If you that close to NY or PA, go get a mailbox from mailboxes etc and use it, they usually give you suite #'s, so you may get away this that.

I have pondered the same ideas about insurance since I pay 5700$ a year in NJ, own policy.

I think you get 12-14 points before losing your license in NJ. Do your best to get the violations reduced down to non-moving ones. It is unlikely the insurance company would drop you since they haven't paid for an accident, and they would be losing your parents as customers.

get a beater, along with your car and get your own policy with a multi-car discount. You'll also get hit with the "less than 3yrs in force" rate because your not on your own policy.

Sometimes you were lucky, but odds are you got pulled over for a reason most of the times. I'm not trying to be a dick but i agree that you made your own bed, and if you go trying to screw the system your just going to make it worse. So don't do anything stupid, especially if a cop is around, and you'll keep your liscense.

P.S. Take the course and get some points back if you can. God i'm glad we don't have points in iowa

I definitely made my own bed, but some of these tickets were just bad luck and bad place. I talked to one of the cops and he said he would drop it when I go to court bc I gave him a soob story of how I just graduated and need my license and dont want my insurance to go up too high. Real nice guy. So now I should be ok but just on the verge.

Mods you can end this thread bc it is no longer necessary since I seem to forget I need to pay the car off before changing residency and there is no way in hell I can do that right now.
