Will there be a new CL?

I have heard rumors that the CL will be discontinued at the end of this model run, with no replacement. Anyone know if that is the case, or if a new model is planned? If a new model is in the works, any idea of when it (or a new TL if no CL) might be out?

Thanks,

Steve

Damn, I hope there will be another CL, but asking this question is like asking if there's Gold on Mars... Nobody knows except for the martians (Acura)

The current CL is slated to be discontinued with the last CL's made in June/July.

There was a one year lapse when the current CL came out (no 2000 model year CL was available), so there is hope that the past will repeat itself, and a new CL will come out in the 2005 MY.

The new TL (2004) will be out in the fall, which reminds me, wasn't the New York show this last weekend ?? Where are the 2004 TL pics ??

I asked this same question at the dealership during my last oli change.

The answer was the same --- ?????

The TL is supposed to be redesigned. And, with the introduction of the TSX, I doubt that there will be anything new about the CL .. IF there is a CL at all.

I hope that there is and that it is improved in several ways.

Let's hope!!

Update - in speaking to customer service about the rotor problem, I also asked about the future of the CL. The reply was that a new TL will be coming out later this year, but no CL at that time. Her speculation was that there might be a G3 version at some future date, but that it would be at least a year or 2 off - similar to the situation with the introduction of the TL before the G2 CL. Since there is nothing in their info. pipeline, it is virtually guaranteed to be at least a year, best case.

you guys should hope that they DO NOT reproduce it. Having the LAST model is much better than having an outdated older model. That way, it leaves a good mark in everyone's memory, for those who have the 01-03's....u know what imean? Like with the accords, i have a 99 and after my 4 years, they came out with the 03s and now mine is the old accord....no one remembers....but if the CL is discontinued at 03, it will essential be the LATEST MODEL....get my drift?

What I'm wondering is if the dealers were told the same thing back in 1999. As we've seen before the dealers know just as much as us with Acura being so tight lipped about their upcoming products.

Sorta like being the owner of the LAST Legend 6spd coupe. I see a couple of the Legend coupes on the road, and they still look good

I almost bought a 2002 Accord leftover, but didn't as I figured that it would be "outdated" when the restyled 2003 Accords came out.

The NY Auto show starts this coming Friday (4/18), so you should see some new pics this weekend or early next week.

As for the CL.. I think it's been well documented that it's dead after this model year run is over. There have even been links to Honda's website announcing it's demise. Like others said... hopfully it will just be a one-year break while they decide it's ultimate fate.

The 04 TL pix have been posted here and on the TL forum all week, looks pretty good, much more agressive front end and taller with the slim windows you see now. Search for 04 TL pix.
It's supposed to go on sale in Sept.
Honda announced on Friday April 4 that the CL was discontinued. I think they might build a coupe off the new TL but that could be 2 years off and depends on how the other model sales are going and market trends, etc.

I totally understand what you're saying.. but can't say I agree 100%. The car is being discontinued b/c of terrible sales. It's not going out on top.. it's going out on the bottom. Why would you be happy they're not continuing production? By having a 2003 all that means is that you have the last year of the car before Acura abandoned it. The Accord was redesigned and moved up in style... that's a good thing. So you have an old Accord, but the fact that there is a new Accord is also a good thing. I would don't know how happy I'd be to own the last year of a car that was discontinued. I certainly wouldn't see it as a good thing....

I cant believe they did that whole cosmetic upgrade for 03' and in addition added the 6 speed to the line up just to drop the CL off completely? This leaves only the RSX as their sports car? Everyone knows the TSX and RSX is nice and everything but is far from a sweet coupe. IMO

Ehh.. those blurry pics sucked. I want "real" pics

Juniorbean, thanks. I'm off by a week, but I guess I won't have to wait long to see the TL pics from the show.

For those who are search challenged

2004 TL

Don't understand this concern about buying a discontinued car. THe CL 6 speed is a great car and there will always be people that want it. When it is no longer made, some demand will still be there and increasing supply wil be ZERO. This is a good thing for 6 speed owners. My 95 Legend Coupe is 8 years old and the dealer is asking $15k, will probably get $11-13k for it. How many other8 year old cars in this range go for that? It sold the day after I traded it in but the finanacing fell thru.
I'd buy 2 6 speeds if I could afford it!

Just for reference that WILL NOT be the 04 TL you see in the dealership in the fall, that is the CONCEPT form of the 04 TL....it will most likely look different when it comes to the production model, prob. alot more concervitive. Remember the old CL-X and TL-X concepts....the first gen CL looked nothing like the CL-x and the second gen TL didnt look too much like the TL-x either, so dont all get your hopes up that its gonna look just like this.

It has been stated many times before that the concept TL, while being a concept is 90-95% production. That means that the car will pretty much look like the TL you'll see at the NY Auto show and the car that was shown to Acura dealers just a few weeks ago (which is where these pics are from). The differences will probably be minor, like no cross drilled rotors, possibly the headlight "grill" will be removed ... it will have actual side view mirrors (according to one dealer, he states they will be the same as the TSX side view mirrors, with turn signals and all).

Its possible that the 2004 TL will look different, but I don't think it will be too far off from the pictures (especially considering the car will be selling in September, which means Acura is most likely EXTREMELY close to production, since it would need to start producing cars in just a few months).

#1. The CL days are number somewhere between June and July the last CL will roll off the line in Marysville,Ohio
#2. the new TL is nasty . I'm not knocking honda cause they build a hell of a car just I'm not feeling this redesign right now:thumbsdn: the rear end from this angle looks messed up
I got another rant: ever since Nissan went with the fender bulges on the Z. now the Maxima, now the new TL will have that too. I think they look retarded

Hmm, i was kinda hyped up when I saw the blurry pics posted but seeing this last pic...eh I dunno. The front end reminds me of a Solara, not really digging the headlights and the yellow sidemarker in the front and then a red one by the rear? Wtf? The rear looks like a cadillac, don't like that lil window in the rear passenger, and the roof kinda looks like a Maxima. Other than that, nice wheels which Acura probably won't even offer. Damn, i hope the production doesn't look this butt!

so are u implying that the CL is a BAD car? since sales are low? or is it just bad marketing? There is no direct correlation between sales and the quality of car.....Sure, that CAN be a factor, but there are also several other aspects that need to be examined......For instance, FORD sells a shit load of mustangs and explorers, but the quality and design of those cars are NO better than the average CL and sales for FORD is ALMOST triple......honestly, the explorer and mustang arent that great of cars in terms of quality....im sure most will agree with me here......IMO, i beleive the CL is a GREAT CAR. Reliable, smooth, fast.....comfort...what else could u ask for? they only reason y i beleive they are dropping it is due to suck ass marketing....there is really nothing wrong with the car itself....Now, hypothetically speaking, lets say the CL was discontinued due to numerous technical problems that couldnt be fixed and the car was a straight up POS like the PINTO, ONLY THEN could i see it as a bad thing..and i wouldnt be proud to own one......and if u are going to argue tranny failure, all cars have em.....its just depends on the luck of the draw.....u kno...but due to bad advertising and negative consumer appeal, thats not a strong enuf reason....im not tryin to argue with u...i just wanna get my point of view across, u kno

The CL will be back in some form, just not right away. That's my feel, anyway. Sometime after the '04 TL (or whatever they'll call it) we'll see a 2-door version. Honda would be absolutely stupid to not have an entry in the luxury sport coupe market to compete with the G35 and others.

Isn't Acura about due for a naming convention change, too?
