Will the CL make a comeback in 2005?
I was thinking that the CL will be back in 2005 and will be a better car than the G35 coupe. I say this because Acura didn't make the CL in 2000 either the same way that they won't make one for 04. But in 2000 the new TL came out and the following year 2001 the CL came back. So in 2004 there will be no CL but there will be a new TL which will take away sales from the G35 sedan. Then in 2005 we will be blessed with a fabulous new CL based on the 2004 TL.
Let me know what you guys think.

I really like my CL, so I hope Acura will eventually come out with another non-4cly coupe.
The point about the missing MY 2000 has been brought up before, but I think Acura officials have said that the savings from not redesigning the CL for 2004 were used to make the new TL alot better.
I won't be ready for a new car for quite awhile, but if Acura doesn't have a coupe when I'm ready, I'll be looking elsewhere (or at sedans).

I'm very happy with '03 CLS 6speed. Got the CT springs/sways/intake/headers and running on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/50ZR17s with stock rims. I'll be upgrading shortly to the CT exhaust/b-pipe. With all these mods, I believe it's almost up to the performance level in regards to handling of a stock G35 or 350Z. As far as HP and speed, it's probably faster. The only thing it's lacking is RWD or even better AWD. With this, the CLS 6speed would far exceed these other cars in handling - as long as they keep the weight down or even reduce it.
That said... Unless they come out with a post 2004 CL type couple that's RWD or AWD, I'll probably keep my current 6 speeder.

However, I do agree/hope... One thing I've noticed about the CL, is that it's got about the best compromise between cost, performance and luxury of any sport couple on the market. It's only real downfall is it's FWD (and torque steering for the 6sp).
i don't think acura will ever make the CL AGAIN...
....thats because they will reintroduce a another sports coupe w/a v6 engine under a very diff name. The 2nd gen Cl is an awesome car, but it seems as if everyone and their grandmother knows abt the tranny issues, which have left a very very bad mark on Acura. Thus, Acura will try to separate themselves from that and rename this new coupe something else, hmmm tl-x?

I heard through the rumor mill that a new coupe is coming, but not in a CL. Perhaps a smaller version like a TSX type coupe with a larger engine. Source of rumor mill was the Acura dealership. Perhaps a TSX Type R coupe with an improved version of the S2000 engine.
Whatever it is that Acura comes out with it will be based on the TL, and not the TSX. Whether they call it a CL or a TL-X it will not be a 2 door TSX, that would be called an RSX. And if they come out with the 240hp RSX or TSX coupe, that would be anIntegra type R replacement, and NOT a CL replacement. Think about it the Integra type R didn't come out until 1997, and the Integra GSR had been out for 2 or 3 yrs before we saw the type R. So in my opinion the TSX/RSX with 2 or 4 doors, 200 or 240hp, 4cylinder is no comp for a G35 coupe. But a 300hp+ 6cylinder is so expect to see something like that for 2005 it will be replacing the CL and I don't know what they will call it.
Do I make sense or not?

I have a question. Does the European Accord (USDM TSX) come in a coupe version ??
A 2 door tsx won't work for some buyers. I'm one of them. I wouldn't be driving a acura if the CLS didn't have a V6 in it.
Now, if you put a v6 into a tsx coupe, then I'd be down w/ that

i think we'll see a tsx wagon before a tsx coupe, unless something is released in october at the tokyo auto show. when the rsx gets refreshed in the upcoming year or two i can see it taking on the shape of a 'tsx coupe' as acura adds the new corporate design that the tl and tsx share to it, maybe a 2.4 also. don't know about the cl, can't see them bringing the cl name back after they went to the trouble of canceling the car and i can't see them bringing back the legend name after they went to all the trouble of eliminating names from the lineup. who knows.
Who knows it maybe the time for the mixer, they have had rumors flowing thru Acura about a combination gas/electric hybrid, w/AWD. I wouldn't be suprised to see it step into the CL's place. They can't really make it go into the NSX(true sport car handling issues), not the RSX, or the the high revving S2000 block, But a 300-325 hp 2 or 4 dr with AWD and good gas mileage, sounds like a winner to me, assuming it is not a brick (heavy). Even the RS6 flies at 4800lbs, but twin turbos help and the AWD. Too bad it costs a fortune....
But this also raises a good question...How hard is it going to be to mod a hybrid. If you can change the electric motor computer (chip) and do stuff to the engine, you could have a seriously mean ride.
I would never buy a hybrid (prius, Honda EV.
I want a real car!!!
Also what the hell would that compete against, don't you realize Acura comes out with a car a little better than the competiton, then the competition comes out with something a little better than them and everyone thinks that is the sweetest ride until Acura comes out with something new. It's a game back and forth. We will see a 300hp 6cylinder TL based coupe in 2005.

FUCK THE NEW TSX-R with an S2000 engine! What the fuck man..come on! That puny ass engine sucks anyway..especially if you mount it in this car...
PUT IN THE NSX ENGINE! The 295HP 6-speed engine baby! Then we are talkin' performance coupe! Acura shares so many of their same engines in different model types anyway, what is the harm!

I think Acura should just drop the NSX and give us a really sweet CL coupe instead.
this way they won't have to be woried about making it too fast, or RWD etc.
Just give us a nice, 300hp+ RWD/AWD 6 speed coupe with luxury and we'll all be happy! I know I would be!

there wont be an acura thats better than the 350Z or the G35C unless its an NSX.
any new acura coupe WILL NOT, and CAN NOT be a better built, better handling vehicle than the G35 or Z unless its RWD. period, end of story.
it is very very clear that acura is sticking with its FWD format. face it. and yes, that creates a market for them, alot of people want luxury but need FWD for snow driving, etc. but FWD means without a doubt, that i will never be a better balanced, better handling, better build vehicle. sorry to busrt anyones bubble but this is just the facts. a FWD can not compete with a RWD for most performance factors.
acura may come out with a new CL in a few years but youd be kidding yourself if you think its going to beat the current G/Z. FWD limits the amount of torque and power you can do before it gets ridiculous. RWD....the possibilities are endless.
acura doesnt build crazy fast cars that handle outstanding besides the NSX, and the NSX is waaay out of the league of most peoples pocketbook, additionally, the NSX isnt meant to be a luxury car, its a semi-exotic sports car. the G35C is a luxury sports coupe thats got potential and a much better starting point of the bat (i.e. more power, more torque, much better handling, RWD, brembos, better suspension, better ride height, 18's) than the CL. any new CL can pick up alot of that slack, but without RWD, it wont be a very good competitor in true performance aspects.
if you are someone looking for the "next level" acura, dont hold your breath, they will be sticking to their FWD mold, mark my words, this will not change. its proven very successful to them, they will continue it. the new TL will be cool, no doubt, but its going to be FWD, theres no dancing around that. it will be, thats it. HP, who knows? maybe 280? maybe 290? regardless, just watch, every mag and review show will ream it a new one because its going to handle like dog shit compared to the 5 series, G35 sedan, and the like, all because of the all important RWD and balance ratio.
im not trying to talk shit about acuras or the new TL, im just saying, by itself, the CL-S is a fucking sweet ride and the new TL is sure to be awesome, but from a performace standpoint, from a standpoint of true performace and TRUELY moving up the next level of automobile excellence, you are fooling yourself, it wont happen.
every mag, every real reviewer every real driving enthusiast cant deny that RWD is superior, but at the sacrafice of practicality for some people. Acura is just willing to make that sacrafice, and for good reason. just dont fool yourself into thinking that any acura will compete with the next gen of cars on its powertrain, handling and suspension characteristics. if you dont care about that, well then the new TL will probably satisfy you on its interior merits, its exterior styling, its power, etc.
