Copying someone else's hard work is just tasteless.

1. we CUSTOM MADE A SKYLINE BUMPER FOR THE CL, how is that less original? its not.
2. because someone decides to do fender flares doesnt mean they are copying someone, cuz then everyone after the first person to do fender flares would be copying, including xXkRaZiXx. besides his fender flares are molded differently than the other guys, and they continue into the bumpers and side skirts. how is that less original? its not.
3. we did a Sparco gas door, the other guy didnt do anything to his gas door. how is that less original? its not.
4. the other guy had his car back to the shop 4 times because the wheels were rubbing the flares. ours wont.
5. the other guy had the plumbing for nos hooked up in the front of the car, yet no plumbing through the car which means he spent all that money on the kit just to show it. THATS RICE MY FRIEND. this car is getting nos, and it will be hooked up for the reason it was meant for, not to just show it off.
no offense to you, but i am sick of people saying this is a copy, the only thing that is the same is the rear bumer and the skirts. just cuz it has flares doesnt mean its copied. thats like saying everyone with an aftermarket bumper is copying. now if the flares were installed the same way then you make your point. but they are molded differently with a less sharp line, so it is different.
one last thing, he's doing an mdx block, pistons, sc,... extensive motor work, the other guy didnt, and cant because it is a cl-p, the ecu isnt compatibale with the sc, only turbo, and good luck tuning it.

rmstoico,
Easy there.... I don't remember commenting on the quality of work on either car.
Second, I do want to compliment YOU and YOUR shop on the work that you are doing. It is indeed a 1st class job.
But why are you so sensitive about "copying this" or "original that". Afterall like I said the quality of the work is amazing, end of discussion. I was addressing you CLIENT, the guy who's car it is.
I am the only one I know with working DP nitrous, but I wouldn't say that since he is doing this that he is copying me!??! say w/ headers etc...
But when you spend the kind of money that he is (or isn't since it is sponsered) you should be able to make the car look like almost anything. My point is why copy a design of a completely original CL.
How do you know so much about xXkRaZiXx's set up? including the flares and actual working internals if it wasn't the base behind your CUSTOMER's idea.
Your shop does incredible work, your client needs to address the similarities between his idea and the one Andy bought together. Seems like one copied one.

rmstoico: I hope I cleared up any misconceptions about my opinion of Mobile's work. The "under" fender work is indeed impressive.
Essarak Huot: No flames wanted here either! I respect you for taking a CL to this level, as I do Andy has well. You're right that you two probably won't have to worry about competing together. You car is coming along stunningly, I was just pointing out with all that work having to be done, I (just personal here) would have tried to come up with a new design. But then again, there would be no promise that it would end up looking this good. The lines flow flawlessly and after all it is a Type S
Congrats!

that's alot of work. i'm sure it will turn out awesome. what color will it be?
you do make more work for yourself by hardlining the primer like that though.

anyway, thanks for the compliments, they are appreciated.
someone else asked how much this costs. well, i wont do it again for the price i charged. i lost money in both material and employee labor on this. we did more than body work...
we:
installed the door poppers along with the brain and all wiring so it is professionally hidden and ran through the stock door grommets,
ran power wire (which isnt fun in that car),
spent numerous hours and material on another front bumper that was scratched for the new one,
installed coilovers and spent a few hours adjusting them,
installed pedals,
short shifter,
changed the design of the front bumper at least 3 times,
installed and removed door kickers that dont work on the cl's cuz the fn doors are too heavy and the only place for a popper only twists the door instead of pushing it,
installed and removed fiberglass dividers for the skyline bumper lights that were scratched,
built walls connecting the flares to the stock lips inside the wheel well,
spent time removing door panels and interior parts at least 5 times
and not to mention had the car sitting here for at least 2 months waiting for things like the wheels, gas door gaskets, all of which wasnt the customers fault, but caused us an inconvenience because the guy painting it wanted the car soon after we had the wheels and were able to put the flares on.
an employee and myself totalled over 200 hours on this car. at the end, we worked for 3 days straight with a total of 3.5 hours sleep to meet the painters deadline and it still wasnt finished. then i look like the bad guy for not having the work completed. this guy is charging the customer more to paint the car than what we charged him for all of this work. YES I SAID MORE! it will take 2 weeks to paint that car. and when it is done i will pick it the f*ck apart. i painted a car from primer, door jambs, engine, trunk jamb and all in 2 days. if 2 people worked 8 hours a day on the shit we did to that CL they could barely finish in 4 weeks. just custom building a front bumper so it is symmetrical takes a week.
so to make a long story short, take it to the city and pay $4000 for the work, and bring it back after it cracks in 20 spots just like the other guy did when his wheels kept rubing the flares... or have it done professionally for twice as much, and never have to worry about anything.
people distinguish the difference between a maaco paint job and a $10,000 paint job, and will pay the difference because they know the work is better, not just the appearance, but the way it was performed. yet, with body work nobody can understand there are 25 ways to do it incorrectly and 1 way to do it right.
you can stand on the flares we mold to cars. the fender will bend out before the flare cracks. you can kick the side skirts like you kick your red headed step daughter and they wont crack. im waiting for the day they have body work durabilty competitions!
thats all. my answer is expect to pay $6000+ for the work

I'll try not to comment on Ross perspective on this project. Anyways I know every one is waiting to see this never ending project finish, Iam sure it will look nice, but there is plenty more work before it goes in the booth...
Ross I appreciate you for taking in this project that we never thought it will take this long...... but like I said there are more to it before the car is ready for painting..... but this is between me and you.
P.s. thanks again for all your work + tell Cook that I thank him as well!!!
