I just bought a set of 18 x 7.5 with 235/40/18. and the offset is 45. I am rubbing the back tires whenever i hit a bump, are my tires tooo wide or what? will 225/40/18 rub? thanks alot!

BTW I am using Eibach spring.

Are you sure your offset is not too low?

Did your car have a lot of people/stuff in it?

hmm...

i have 235s on a +45, 8" wheel. And mine rub at just about an Eibach drop.

so I guess... with 235's you could possibly rub... although +45 should be a plenty high offset for a 7.5" whelel.

Not sure tho.

Your probably rubbing on the inner fender lip... just roll it back a lil.

HRE suggested that +52 would be optimal in a 7.5" wheel width.

225/40-18s could help. However, you would want 225/45-18s (SL ok) or 225/40-18s in an XL tire (Nittos and/or Toyos)

As soopa said, you could try a little fender "trimming" if the rub is at the rear fender..

Can you check for rub marks? It would help determine the next step.

I checked, it's at the back, the inner fender, i wonder if i go back to 225/40, since it's 10mm smaller, would it be alot better? cuz now, 235/40, the ride is PERFECT, and it's not bumpy at all, maybe the extra sidewall compare to 225.....

If the ride is perfect, you may want to talk to soopa and there is a thread from only a few days ago about cutting the plastic in the rear fender area.

You MAY be ok with the 225s, but I'm not sure...

I think i should be ok with 225, cuz i did some calulation. 235 Vs. 225, the difference are 10mm, which is about the size of the inner fender. And with 235, i am out to the fender by too much. The offset 45, they should be ok, cuz someone with 42 offset but with 225/40 tires, still have no problems running. I try to switch to a 225 to see.

You did remember that the outside of the tire will only move in 5mm when you go from 235 to 225?

ya know if your rubbing inside... i dont know how to fix it... i would suggest putting on some spacers maybe and then fix the rubbing on the outside... which is always easier.

i dunno

You are probably rubbing with the 235's because of the extra bulge that you have on 7.5's. If you were running the 235's on an 8" wheel there would be less wheel bulge and you possibly wouldn't rub. I was running +48's when I had 235's and I had no rub on 18's but then again my rim width was only a 7"

Strange as it may sound, the 7.5s will reduce the cross section by .2" per .5" of rim reduction (within the recommended rim width range). There are always exceptions -- and that is the "rule" I found at various tire sites...

laser:

I'm wondering (given the info) about your comment about “inner fender”…

Are you talking about the outboard fender, but the rub is on the inside of it?

OR

Are you talking about the inside of the fender well. As in the rub is happening on the tire tread or sidewall *away* from the "outside" tire (visible) sidewall?

Fender well on rear of driver side

| | Tire | |
| |<-- inside | |

|C | |D-+ <-- (fender lip)

-end diagram-

Given the diagram above, can you specify if the rub is at:
A or B or C or D (or at somewhere between them)?

Thanks guys, solution solved! 225/40/18 will not RUB, maybe once tiny one every now and then at big bumps... but other than that, no more rub. Wow, i didnt know 235 Vs 225 can make such a big diff. thanks guys

Just curious -- (for future reference) -- where on the diagram did you rub with the 235s?
