Can anyone tell me why our cars (or is it just mine) seem to hit a power wall around 100mph? (yeah, shouldn't be doin 100 anyway!!) Would headers help by moving the high rpm-induced exhaust gasses out more efficiently?

01 CL-S San Marino Red/Black, K&N drop in, no nav, rear wing, otherwise stock thus far, has an appetite for Bavarian cars.

 

It's our gearing, we hit the top of 3rd at something like 108 mph. When we hit 4th gear it's so tall we lose all power, really.. it's not terribly pleasing when you're cruising at 80 and someone comes up wanting to race, and you know you've only got about 30 mph of running room before you're going to be relegated to grandma speed.

Unfortunately, our gearbox is set up like a 6-speed without a 4th gear. I'm sure that's one reason why the gas mileage is so great! If they ever put a manual tranny in, it will need to be a 6-speed.

I'd say 99.9% of CL owner have reached their cruising speed at 100mph and prefer the added gas mileage of the higher gearing.
