Since the day I drove it off the lot, paid in full. Wish I had a picture of the salesman's face.

I will never succumb to any interest payment-bank loan, credit card, or otherwise.

Same here... I don't like leasing. Its too much like renting. I also didn't like parting with $28,000 either... but that's the way it goes. I was financially drained for a year and I'm still trying to build up my savings. I don't have as much as I would like in my savings right now, and that worries me.

Got mine last week and wrote out the biggest check ever.

But it feels good to own. Why pay 9%???

Mine all mine.

Am impressed with so many others owning out right.

yep , paid for her in full on delivery. I got off the installment bandwagon in '90 and reverted to buying things the old fashioned way: save and collect 3.5% while you wait versus buying and paying an extra 9% thereafter. But I fully appreciate the lure of "have it now..."

Well, my CL isn’t paid off (still owe about 7K), but the reason is I like to have money in the bank.
I’m kind of pessimistic and like to have about a year’s salary in the bank in case I loose my job or something catastrophic.

I have over 100K of equity in my home and could easily pay off my car with some of that.
I just figure that I would rather pay 400 a month and have a nice cushion in the bank.

I’m making extra payments on my loan and plan to have it paid off by spring so I can take it UP THE ASS when I sell it or trade for the 2003 6-Speed.

Just my personal opinion I guess.

That's my plan too. I'm down to $8600 and paying every last cent I can spare to pay it off. Actually, I want to buy a house too. I'll get the mortgage and then see if I can still afford a new car. My brain tells me to forget the 6 speed, buy a house, and be happy with my car. But my left leg wont stop twitching. I want it all, damn it!

I bought the car when i was 20. But that isn't so bad paying it off after a year.

Paid in cash. I worked out the price over the internet. Went to the dealer around 7pm, looked his inventory over, pointed at the one I wanted (the one still shrinkwrapped and never test driven!), and said I will take that one NOW. Left the dealer at 9pm.

So - this is going to be an unpopular question, but of those of you that paid it off, how many used money that is in no way tied to your parents or family?

Wise !

Very Wise if one can afford to do so; if not maybe they should get less car. If I could only listen to myself "preach"

I financed 20k back in June. I must be down to oh: 19932.00 by now

good question about the parents.. hehe

its like this, i went to the bank to deposit my monthly payment, and it was still there after a couple days. They didnt take the car payment i made. Guess what?

My mom paid it off for me as a gift. It was kind of like a surprise present. Yeah go ahead, I'l give you all the red carpet to walk on while flaming me.

So my mom paid 15 000 dollars for my car, and I paid the rest....

But before you go ahead and flame me, guess what, some business contacts I made for my moms company took her out of debt, I went to far lengths to get her business going for her.

I still dont have any good suggestions what to do with my extra 450 bucks a month!
