Hey fastvtec, what do you think? Would you recommend the vafc for my 98 3.0? I was thinking about it, but I heard that it makes the ride a little more harsh because of the shifting?? Anyways, what do you think?

sorry guys, i dont know why my comp did that. i gained 15hp in the mid range, and the shifting gears was fine. my vtec is set at 3300rpms and the last time i dynoed my car is was 180hp to the wheels and 226 foot pounds of torque. so tw1112 yes i say get it!

Does it hold the car in gears longer? If it does, doesn't that hurt the tranny?

it still change the same just better and faster, instead of vtec kicking in at 3900 rpms you can have it kick in at as low as 3000 but 3300 is the bet results as far as the dyno results said. i change gears at 6500 and have had no problems so far, that was same as stock that has not changed

Hey, what did you do about the timing of the car? What plug did you use? a 7 or 6?

CLPower,
I didn't run it with the V-AFC installed but I did 13.99 with the 36Jet(45-50HP)NOS without the V-AFC. not bad yea??
As for the timing retard.....with a small shot like we're running, there is no need to retard the timing just change your plugs....
NGK V plugs, I think I went one colder (maybe 6) and I went one down in the gap (TL factory - 44, NGK - 40).
I'm still waiting to dyno tune my V-AFC, then I'll go and clock again, I'll keep you updated!!! Keep me updated on your times too!! - tanner

Would any of you install a V-AFC if your car was leased? Since my car is
leased, I'm not sure if I should.</font>

Apex-i V-AFC is a Vtec-AirFlowController, it allows you to adjust the air/fuel ratio, which if tuned right, improves your power curve.
For the price of the V-AFC($400)+Installation($40)+dyno tuned($80)=Total($520) for at most(no mods) a gain of 1-2HP. That's not a good $/HP ratio.
Instead,I would get some type of CAI($230) easy to install or save up for some headers ($1000) kind of steep but you'll see the most HP gain with this mod(besides NOS, S/C or Turbo)
Hope this helps you understand!!!!!

I wouldn't recommend you getting the V-AFC for your car and not because your leasing your car because it's reversable(installation) but rather with no mods done to your car, you won't really feel any performance change. The only thing that that you'll be able to take advantage of is controlling when the V-Tec engages.

I don't have the V-AFC. But I do have the Field's VTEC controller that I had on my Type R. Now I might install on my Cl, not sure yet. I am not sure if the V-AFC is better or not. I heard that you can't fine tune as much as you can on the Field's (Like the air/gas mixture). Just a rumor?
