White, never again!

I've always have had dark colored cars, like my 95 Maxima was black, and my 2000 Maxima was Gray Lustre(Metallic Charcoal), but now I have a white CLS, and I washed it this Sat., and could not believe how hard it was to clean this car. I always thought it was tough to keep black clean, but white is just as hard. For some reason I had all these little black spots all over the bottom of the car, I think it might have been tar or something, but never the less it took me forever to get that crap off. None of my other cars have had a problem with all this junk sticking to the paint, do you think it might be the cheapness of the paint that Acura uses?..maybe? Well, after this car, I'm definitely going back to the dark colors. Has anyone else had a problem with have this crap stick to the car?

Same problem here, when Im getting in the car my shoes would hit the side of the car under the door and make black marks. but it usually comes off w/ a terry towel and water.

Yeah, I didn't have too much problem getting those marks off, but the black spots that I'm talking about are actually at the bottom panel of the doors, maybe I need to get mud guards so things to kick up and get stuck to my doors when I accelerate.

True, but how many hairline scratches and swirl marks did you have to deal with?

These silver guys are all laughing now - however, silver is sooo boring...

Yeah that's why I liked the mettalic charcoal so much, because you didn't see the swirl marks, and you didn't see the scratches and other spots. The car looked clean 24/7, and it was so easy to clean it.

Better to be boring than frustrated.

**smootch**.
Actually, silver is good until you get a chip that needs touch up.....it never, ever matches and looks WAY worse than the chip itself.

yeah, tar is always a problem when it comes to light colored cars, but they're still a helluva lot easier than anything dark. What kind of wax are you using? I've had 2 white cars and the tar comes off very easily with no hard rubbing when the car is freshly waxed.

I used zymol, and it didn't come off. Then I used some fine cut rubbing compound by 3M and that worked pretty well, but it still took some rubbing. What do you recommend?

Well, my two white cars were Civic coupes and back then I was just using cheapie Nu-Finish ($5/bottle). The tar came off fairly easily. I now use Zaino and the tar comes off even easier. You could always get a clay bar which is sure to take it off. But that also strips off whatever kind of polish/wax you are using.

DUDE... dotn use that cutting compound shit!!!

It will definately wear down your clear coat if you use it as often as you clean your car.

Buy some Finish First Finish Prep...

It removes tar very simply... and is simple to use... just rub it on and rub it off... no elbow grease whatsoever!

Thanks bro, I'll try that out. I didn't know that the compound was bad for the paint. It actually made the surface a lot smoother. But I'll make sure to buy some of that stuff you're talking about. Thanks...

I'd bet that once you clay bar the car and then wax it that you won't have problems getting stuff off so long as you wax it when it needs it. Things will wash off the wax a lot better and easier than off paint. Personally I'm using Meguiars Professional products (combo of Medallion and Pro), and I'm extremely happy...

I'm also a white and I've got a bazillion tar dots all over the wheels wells and fender rims. For preventing either tar or other dirty drek the guards and fenderwell are virtually useless. They just hide the black stuff better is all. But the guards and trim do add a slight bit of contrast to the white.

Hey guys thanks for all of the product tips about removing the tar. I was going to smear on some of that goop stuff which removes tar but smears it first. Here in NJ the roads are always throwing back something at ya.

Otoh with white they are NOOOO swirls to worry about or at least see.
