Where is the ECU located?

hey guys,

just got my car back from having the tranny replaced and they claimed to have replaced the ECU. I have a PC installed in my car and if the ECU is behind the dash, it does not looked touched.

Does someone have a pic of where it is located?

Thanks.

It's under the passenger's side carpet right up against the center console (basically under where the radio is).

Also, they didn't replace the ECU. You're right, they didn't touch it. They replace the PCM.

where is the PCM located then?

on my invoice one of the parts they used was labeled ECU.
If in fact they replaced the ECU, they didn't touch that area because i have some 'custom' wiring in that area and it looks untouched.

How could I prove they did or did not replace the part?

Thanks for the replies guys.

well if they did the tranny recall stuff (oil jet thingy) then they probably also reflashed the PCM with whatever is supposed to make the tranny last longer, even if it makes you lose power. So they may have not replaced it, but regardless you shouldn't have had to pay for it.

ECU : engine control unit (on manual models)
PCM : powertrain control module (automatics)

the PCM should be replaced if car is
2000 (tl)
2001 (tl-cl)
2002 (tl-cl)
first part of the 2003 production, not all....has to be verified with VIN (tl-cl)

or should have been replaced if tranny has been replaced after feb 2003

The very first response from 4 years ago literally says where it's located (same as your response).
