When to Switch??
Just curious if its worth switching to Synthetic Oil.What would be a good make along with Oil Filter for Toronto weather?Do I need to break in first?
Any suggestions for an Air filter?(Stock,K&N or Comptech)
I have a 01 CLS with new Engine(Engine was blown @ 85,000 kms)

I've used Mobil 1 or Royal Purple in all my cars for years. Mechanics have told me there is less wear and tear for the internals with synthetics and it seams to work well for me. I don't worry about the extra cost if it helps extend the life of the engines, I tend to run my cars over 120,000 miles before I have any problems and feel lucky. Some mechanics have their own philosphies about oil, depends on their experiences (or in one case his sponsor).
For filters I like K&N, but think about a CAI- you'll like the difference!

I switched to synthetic after about 4200k miles. I let the car break-in for a bit, then the first oil change was synthetic.
I use Redline 5w20 oil and an Amsoil oversized filter....
As for air filter... you'll be good either way with a K&N or Comptech. Of course the first mod I did to my car was an Injen CAI... but if you're not into those, either of the above will work fine

I switched to synthetic the last time I changed the oil. I don't think it really matters when you change. It is supposed to be better for the internals. Plus, most mechanics will say that you can get away with putting more miles before you change the oil with synthetic, so the money factor will equal out.
For an intake, look at the Icebox or AEM. If you're sticking with the stock intake system, just get the replacement K&N filter.
