When I start my car.....

it cranks 6 times, then starts. The cranks are fast, 6 times, then starts. Hope this makes sense..

My Accord would crank twice, then start.

I am just wondering if my car is normal. Car runs fine though. It is just that it is a 2001 and purchased 3 weeks ago. That means the car has been sitting quite a bit..

When you next start your car up in the morning (cold), please take note and compare. Thanks

Mine cranks about 5 times. Even when the engine is warm it seems it takes this many times to get it started. It does it really fast though...

My CLS does the same, my Accord would crank up much faster. Just how they are I guess.

Thanks guy.. Whew.... I was slightly worried for a while.

Some times, my Accord would get into these 'I do not want to start' modes and was afraid my CL-S would do the same.

My car behaves differently, last spring it used to do the same thing, sometimes it would not even start after 5 cranks and I had to try again.... I almost wanted to go to the dealer, but then all of a sudden problem disapeared, and it starts in 2-3 cranks.... People say its due to the different gassoline used in spring/summer and fall/winter

This is true. Our other car is a 98 Camry, and one morning last fall, it would not start. Had it towed to the dealer, and it started right up (figures). They said it was probably vapor lock due to seasonal gas changes. Once in awhile my CL-S takes a little longer to start. Pretty sure it's normal though.

Yeah I had to loaner Integra the other day, and it started right up. ANd shut right down. My Jeep and my dad's Jaguar and S500 take longer to start. Does anyone know if it has anything to do with the Cylinders. I never drove a 4-cylinder till Tuesday and it started right up, The Alero and Acura are about the same and they are both V6, The Jeep is a V8 and same with the Jag and they take longer to start?

Eggplant-EX: This might not apply to you since you're starting a cold engine but I remembered I saw a TSB on excessive cranking issues. If the cranking problems happen with a warmed engine as well, you might want to visit your dealer to see if they know more about this TSB. You can find it here: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/

Make: ACURA
Model: 3.2CL
Year: 2001
Service Bulletin Number: 01001
Bulletin Sequence Number: 176

Summary Description:

SOME VEHICLES WITHIN CERTAIN VIN RANGES MAY EXHIBIT EXCESSIVE CRANKING TO START THE ENGINE AFTER THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AND THEN PARKED (WITH THE ENGINE OFF) FOR ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES. *TT

I brought this up like a week ago. Where the hell were all of you?

Anyway, easy solution: Turn the key to II (the click before starting initiates) and leave it there until the gas gauge starts to rise to where your gas level is. Start it now. Starts a lot quicker huh?

I can't explain it either, but it only seems to happen in colder weather (or more likely, when the gas stations change the gas for colder weather).

Besides, how the hell did you figure that out????? I will be impressed when I try it tomorrow and it works.

It was posted in a thread about this issue from like January or February of this year and I vaguely remembered that fact, and tried it and it helps.

what you're doing is allowing the eletronic fuel pump to push fuel to the fuel injectors.
