Seasonal RVP changeover usually takes place May 15th and September 15th.

Not all parts of the country have winter and summer gas. The summer gas produces less emissions and is used mainly in and around major cities. Summer gas costs more to refine and hince the price increase around memorial day.

Also summer gas will also tend to decrease your mileage somewhat.

It usually takes the terminals 3-5 days to turn their tanks and the stations 1-2 days. The summer gas usually starts to be delivered about a week before the law requires to make sure all stations are in compliance.

All gas comes through the same pipleline and all companies buy each others base product then add their own additive packages when the tanker fills.

Gas is gas and only the additive packages are different. Major oil companies typically use a higher quality and a slightly higher dose of additives.

Mid-grade is actually a blend of regular and premium usually in about a 65%/35% ratio.

I work for one of the major oil companies.

Maybe in Chicago but the Oxygenated fuel we get in the winter time in Denver decreases mileage. With our summer gas (as of last year), you get back the 15 to 20% decrease in mileage and power you lose with the Oxygenated crap. I say "as of last year" because they're implemented a new gas in Denver this summer. Something about "Less combustible"? I have no idea what it is yet but I'm sure it can't be good.

Check out these charges for participation dates across the country:

Dunno J.T., I thought it was everywhere, but I guess this may not affect us southerners.

Eh, I get worse gas mileage in the winter??

They probably use some extreme winter gas for Michigan. It still dips into low 30's up here.

Always heard winter gas is what reduces it and the summer price increase was due to increased demand. I think you may have the summer/winter thing backwards.

Mid-grade gas must be the biggest scam of them all. I have yet to see a car that specifically REQUIRES that grade of gas.

It seems like a scam to get the normal 89 user to step up a little because it will "help their car" but still not have to pay for full premium gas.

Hell, most people have no idea what octane means anyways and just assume higher is better.

I am sooo ready to be gone with the oxygenated gas!

My gas mileage has dropped a good 3-4 mpg over the winter!
