Whats up with the RES mod?

Not to beat a dead horse, but I haven't been on this site in a while and was wondering whats the word on the RES mod? Last I read it was slated for earlier this year.

Sorry if this has been discussed recently but the search functionality is currently unavailable and now that I have my TLS I would like to know when I might be able to get my hands on this RES plate. Thanks.

I'm about to put 1000 miles on the below unit and have a tentative dyno session scheduled for May 3rd.

None at all, the car is running very well.

Well, except for one problem I have yet to fix. I snapped one of the bolts in the upper manifold which hold the plate and cover on. While drilling it out I snapped the drill bit in there and then chewed up two more bits trying to get that one out. So I gave up and bolted it down without that one in. No apparent vacuum leaks as I check the MAP reading and it is at 8 Inches HG at a warmed up idle. I also sprayed it down well with carb cleaner and there was no hiccup at all.

That plate is so thick I suspect that it will seal fine with one less bolt.

Scalbert,

Does the car feel any stronger/quicker? I'll be waiting for the dyno on may 4th!

I know you said that you have 1000 miles on it but is this the most recent version? I thought I remember hearing that Doug made some changes after the initial tests were done (sometime late last year/early this year. Also, are there any problems with Hood clearance? Did you have to do anything special to be able to close the hood? I thought I read something about this being an issue.

Thanks again!

Scalbert made his own RES. It is not the one from Doug if I remember correctly.

It's not. It's his own. Btw, you lost a drill bit in one of the bolt holes? Why not use a magnet to get it out?

Hummm.....that would have to be the biggest damn magnet in the world to get that drill bit out!!!

I'm sure Scalbert will use a more conventional method of an "Easy out" or he might just drill it out with one of those special $$$ drills.

That damn thing about RES is no one has explained how it works...

What is the thremodynamics/mechanics behind RES?

By the way, the "Resonance effect" in the stock CLS manifold works BELOW 3800 rpms and the second intake manifold stage cancel the "Resonance effect"....

Heck, I'd just be happy to know the internal aerodynamics.

I believe Scalbert has not had any hood clearance issues. Doug did make some changes to the original design due to hood clearance. He did suggest that the HP may be slightly less due to the lower volume of the redesigned RES chamber compared to the original.

It's coming and it's supposed to get a very solid round of testing (unlike some things I can think of...)

If you ever go back to stock or get a leak, I highly recommend this (more than a few racing engines have been "gasketed"/"glued" together with the stuff):

BTW, as previously mentioned, I just got back from a 1k total trip through some heat I wasn't expecting.

No problems at all and with this recent heat it seems to be holding power a bit better. But I'll let the dyno be the real judge.

One thing I did notice which was interesting was that at off throttle conditions to on throttle conditions cause a delay in power. Almost as if it took a while for the resonance effect to occur (the chamber to fill).

Could be my imagination but this may not be a matter that a dyno would show. Just FYI...
