ok so the S4 is 250 hp stock and AWD....nice looking car, incredible handling...what is all this talk about the "chip" for it?? what exactly does this CHIP do for a stock S4 and how much is it??? does it void the warrenty????

 

Yes there are chips available for it. AudiPerformanceRacing and a slew of others. It increases the boost levels , fuel maps etc., for the turbos. Yes it will.

The chip is either a replacement to the stock ECU or an add on to the stock ECU that changes around the way somethings work to produce ridiculuous hp. If I recall exactly, these chips can increase a car's hp by 50-80. I do believe it does void the warranty because your modifiy the electronics of the car. Not sure.

 

so lets say you have a 2002 S4 and you get this chip...with NO OTHER MODIFICATION...i.e. no headers, no intake, no exhaust, no engine work, NOTHING...just this chip alone will pump an extra 50 + horsepower??? thats incredible!!! why doesnt Audi just tune the car with the extra 50 horsepower to begin with????? and another thing, if yuo chip your car, and then swap back in the stock computer when yuo take the car in for work, is there any way for the dealership to KNOW youve been chipped and therefore void the warrenty???

 

Audi could but it's the same reason why acrua didn't put a better header design in the CLS so it could have 290 HP from the factory, Insurance, future release, fuel economy, emissions and most importantly relability.

You could swap it back but they will know if you've been tinkering with it.

Zerin did it and when one of his turbos went kaput Audi wouldn't honor the warranty because they said he had moded the car. Check out his website.

bro if you bring the car back to the dealer completely stock thay cant tell you unless the chip u get is your factory chip reprgrammed, just but an extra stock one and send one to get reprogramed and if something goes wrong jus tswap them out

 

ive never driven an S4 but im really impressed with its looks and performance numbers...and HELL, get that CHIP and the thing is FLYING!!!! a chipped S4 could fuck with almost anything on the road it seems....on one of the links you guys posted i found some dynos and one guy was putting over 325 hp to the ground with just a chip and exhaust!!! thats incredible! and its all wheel drive?? S4 is my next car, id have to say.

 

Next s4 will most likely be a v8 so will see what a chip--if one is even available--will do for the performance numbers.

 

The new S4 should be bad-azz.... I have actually been thinking that may be my next car. It's supposed to come late 2003 last I heard...

my porsche mech has a 425HP S4....the thing is sick...new turbos, intercoolers, exhasut, suspension etc...a steal to, for sale at 70k CDN.

 

The ABT chip for the S4 adds a good 50 HP and a 100 ft lbs of torque which is crazy! My friend has a stage 2 S4....meaning he has a chip, exhaust, intake, and a few other mods....and he kicks the shit out of my S!!!! He runs a 13.1 1/4 mile, and mid 5's 0-60!!! I would have gotten the S4 if it wasn't for the 10K price difference. The new S4 is not going to be a Bi-Turbo.....it will be naturally aspirated.... so a chip won't do too much for them, but they will be damn fast stock as well. I wish I could have one too!!! But I am completely satisfied with my S! :P Good Day guys!

The 2.7 twin turbo motor in th S4 has a lot of room for mods. I have the same motor in my A6. There are chips available (just chips mind you) that will get HP to over 325. There are other, fairly easy mods to do to add a lot more. It's a really versatile motor, but has some thermal problems when stressed or overboosted. Contrary to the rumors, it is possible to tell if the chip's been messed with. It depends how hard they want to look.

They're bringing the RS6 to the US next year along with a new S4 based on the new A4 body. The RS6 is one bad beast, supposed to compete with the next-gen M5. I've got a really good connection to VW/Audi back in Auburn Hills, so I get decent info. The new Audi Cabrioloet 9that's what they're calling the A4 ragtop) looks cool as well.

I will say that after being a 2 Audi family, we're going to get something else this time around. There's just no negotiating with the local dealers on A4 prices. I love the A6 2.7T, but it's pricey. Only 200 lbs more than the S4 tho, and much more room.
