Try raising your tire pressure first. Then go with synthetic oil and and synthetic ATF.

Just curious of why i would want to increase my tire pressure past the recommened PSI for OEM tires on the CL.

As of the oil its something i can look into.......

Inflating your tires further decreases the contact patch and with it some of the rolling resistance. As for the synthetics I do know that some cars have been dyno'd with synthetic motor oil and ATF and they do show a marginal increase in hp at the wheels. All in all your gains will be minor though. Just try not to drive with a lead foot. That's probably the most you can do.

lol its not that i have the lead foot, well unless i'm , i can get 450miles on a full tank (maybe 500miles if i keep it at 70mph/2000rpm), but i want to aleast get 550 miles before a refill.

Early next year, i'm driving from Miami to California to New York back down to Miami.

So as you can see every little bit in improving MPG will help

it boggles my mind to see that some people get 450miles to a tank of gas. I know this has been beaten to death already, so theres not need to respond....i rarely see 300 before the light comes on.

I never heard of getting more then about 470 on a full tank on any CLS. I drive from FL to NYC & back & only get about 400-450 depending on the conditions.

Same here.

I get about 290-320 miles per tank with my stock rims.

When I put on the 19's I get better gas mileage. About 350-390 per tank.

best mod? modifying right foot. hard acceleration kills mileage. sucks, but that's the truth I've found.

my 74K bone stock '01 CL-S has returned 34mpg on long drives w/cruise control set @75-80 -- on a 17 gallon tank this yields a theoretical range of 578 miles.

how can there be such a HUGE gap in MPG?!? Its not like we're talking 10-15miles..thats understandable, but getting 150-200miles to a tank more? I know headers make up some difference, i think the last number was 50miles more to a tank, still doesn't add up.

I usually get below 20mpg in the city. 6 speeds get lower mpg than the auto.

For city driving, the CLS gets way lower MPG i'd be lucky to hit 300miles. But highway its a whole different matter.

On a half a tank from full, keeping it around 70-75sh, no hard accelaration or WOT, i'll looking at getting very close to 250miles.... last month i drove from ft.lauderdale on my way to lake wales FL, as i past the vero beach exit which is 99miles from ft.lauderale the gas neddle was just comming of the full sign.

Because of my drive from ft.lauderdale to Lake wales and back which is over 400miles, my gauge was between half and empty. And just based on what i was getting that day, i know if i kepted driving i was going to be able to reach 500miles on a full tank.

For real...(now I sound dumb)...if I increase the rim size I would get better mileage just because they are so much lighter? 30-100mptank? Weight is a factor but 100 miles per tank?

The answer for the disparity in mpg is very obvious.
Interstate driving at constant 70-80mph you get 25-30 mpg.
In city driving 15-20 mpg.
Vtec use cut them both significantly.
There is no real difference in the cars-just the difference in urban and rural driving and styles.

Not to mention elevation and whether or not you live a hilly or falt region. Temps and humidity....octane...frequent oil changes will increase mileage as well, tune up....even though the CL has 100k tune up policy..the platnium plugs do wear down.

What does techron fuel additive do to the fuel to give it another 2-3mpg+, and is good for our engine...

First off, you need to be realistic about your expectations. As the "unofficial" miles per one tank of gas record holder (579 from Abilene, Texas to Brinkley, Ark 51 weeks ago, as documenter here https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...&highlight=579), you have to realize that circumstances are going to have to be exactly right throughout your entire trip to even come close to this figure. Everything from the amount of headwind you're having to deal with, to the differences between gas nozzles at the various gas stations you'll be using, to the distance to the next exit and whether or not you trust that the low fuel light comes on at the exact same spot with the exact same miles left (you roll the dice, you takes your chances), to the number of times you either hit the brakes or just touch the accelerator - will all play into the final results. Out of all the times I have actually exceeded 500 miles/tankful on the tripmeter (which means not putting 16 gallons in after reaching 490 miles etc), I have only ever exceeded 530 miles/tankful on 4 occasions ... and 3 or those 4 came during the that same roundtrip ref'd above ... and this with over 55K miles on an '03 6-speed. If you are looking to maximize fuel efficiency throughout your trip, it sounds like you already know most of the answer .... a steady speed (cruise control) and staying out of VTEC will do you the most good.
