What's an acceptable 1/4-mile time for my car??

As far as engine mods are concerned, I only have a CAI.

A couple of weeks ago, I ran a 15.0@93mph. I think it was about 60 degrees out. I spun off the line, banged the limiter, and ran a 15.0 -- do you guys think that's within an acceptable range?

Can you post your entire time slip?? 1/8th mile etc.

Also, how was the humidity?

If you ran a 15.0@93 I'm assuming your 60' was around 2.3-2.4.

If that is the case you are right about where you should be.

If you had a 2.1-2.2 60' something is wrong with your car.

Probably spinning didn't help much at all, lower the pressure some more nextime. Maybe all that extra speaker weight.

Are you doing any kindof prep work on the car beforehand? Like lowering the tire pressure in the front and raising it in the rear?

What about launch? Are you brake torquing the car?

Gate Shifting, Sport Shifting, or D5? (Gate Shifting is the fastest if you know how to do it right)

These kindof things will help improve your 1/4 mile time if you aren't doing it already ...

Also how humid was it and what elevation is the track that you're at? Both things will effect your times.

15.0 @ 93mph with just a CAI doesn't sound unreasonable but you can definitely improve on that time. Don't hit the rev limiter is definitely one thing

I've run 15.0s before with my car 100% stock ... but CAI isn't going to reduce your time significantly.

It was around 60 degrees; I'm guessing about 50% humidity.

The front tires were deflated to 25 psi and the rear tires were inflated to 40 psi.

I brake torqued, and gate shifted.

R/T -- .738
60 ft -- 2.280
330 ft -- 6.405
1/8 ET -- 9.718
1/8 MPH -- 74.91
1000' ET -- 12.581
1/4 ET -- 15.001
1/4 MPH -- 93.14

Again, I spun and banged on that run. With a good launch and shift, I'm pretty sure I could've gotten a 14.9 ET.

Next time.

I sure hope so. I desperately want headers, test pipe and nitrous at this point.

What do you guys think of buying a used kit off Ebay?? I want one asap, but I don't have enough money to buy a new one. I'm thinking NX wet.

your trap is about right, maybe a tad low but so many factors are involved. My first time at the track (only time I've gone while stock) I did a best of 15.2 @92-93 mph in 75+ degree weather with high humidity in August. On a cooler night with headers and icebox I improved to 14.6 @96.25 mph...unfortunately I was running tire pressure @22-25 psi all around (I never prep my car and didn't realize my tire pressure was so low). I figure with the new tires prepped I should be good for a 14.4 @97mph (we'll see this weekend hopefully).

I guess my point is that many factors can effect your runs.

If you ran a 2.1 & 15.0 would that be a symptom of running lean a/f? If not what would the effect of running lean be?

If you ran a 2.1 60' and had a 15.0 ET you need to check your IMRC.

Do a search.

With a 2.2 60' I ran somewhere around 14.6-14.7 at 95 MPH. Your times are a little slow. Probably due to weather.

Show me where a stock automatic has run 14.6.

Even if it has happened, it is far from the average.

I would say 14.8-15.0 is the average for a completely stock car.

I just checked my old time slips.

With a faulty IMRC and Icebox my trap speed was 92 MPH.

With a properly working IMRC and Icebox my trap speed was 96 MPH.

The first Motor Trend CLS review had the 2001 CL Type-S running the quarter mile at 14.8 @ 96.5 MPH.

LINK: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...rd/index3.html

Track, driver, weight and other factors make for a lot of variation in performance.

Get the car into some 40-degree, zero-humidity weather with a 80 lb anorexic at the wheel and then toss everything that isn't bolted down out the car and gate shift to fuel cut-off in all gears. (Gas gauge should read near empty.)

The car will get down to 14.2 with H/I and light wheels and sticky rubber. (Already proven my Mike, and the temp was 60-70 F)

I was checking old slips too for my TLS. I had a couple really good 60' times with 15.3 and 15.4 (@ 90.5 mph) ET's. Wish I had known about the IMRC back then. On the other hand my best ET (15.20 @ 92.2) I had 2.4 60'.

Hmm, I ran a 15.2@90 when I only had a K&N. But it was 77 degrees out and nearly 100% humidity.
