what would the 6speed with mods compare to

Im thinking of trading in for the 6 speed. I love my car but I think the tranny is the only real weakness of the car. If I trade my 02 I will only do it if I can somehow make it much better than the BMW 330. I like the 330 but I honestly think the 6 speed is a better platform for better performance. Here are some of the possible mods I will be doing some now and some when they come out.

These mods I would do first:

1)Comptech headers when they come out
2)Comptech ice-box if available or AEM CAI
3)Comptech springs & sways just swap out of my 2002
4)lightweight 17" rims with Toyos T1s 235/45 ZR17
5)Comptech exhaust swap out of my 02

These mods I will do after:

1)Carbon fiber hood if not too expensive
2)Lightweight car battery
3)Crossdrilled/slotted rotors with ss brakelines

My favorite car is a Porsche 911 which cost about $80k
I believe the new ones come with 320 HP at the crank, and the car weighs about 3200-3300 lbs. If Im not mistaken the 6 speed comes with 260 hp and the headers give it 32 more horses at the wheel making it about 310 hp at the crank. If I can make the car lighter than 3500 lbs by some of the mods, how close am I going to be to a Porsche 911? I know its not even comparable but humor me so I can make a decision on trading in for the 6 speed or not worth it.

Yea but I want to be closer to the likes of the S4, Porsche 911 or Boxster, older generation M3, the new ClK 500,

If I'll still be in the same comparison group of BMW 330, Volvo C70, and Mercedez Clk 430 well then I should just stay with my slush box.

Even the Altima 6 spd. is given us a run for our money, not to mention the G35 and 350Z.

Seems like Acura started the game but couldn't finish it, if its true the CL would be dropped for 2004.

I think it would be close.......the CL 6 speed stock is close to to the 330 anyways. If you mod the car it would probably be faster!!!!!

I'm w/Nicky on this one (BTW thanks 4 the zaino help lol)....w/ I/h/E u should take abt .5 off 1/4 mile time. So lets see, C&D (not that i'm promoting them or anything ) got the CL-S6 2 do the 1/4 mile in 14.3 or 14.2 (someone clarify) so .5 off that is 13.7/13.8 (quicker than a boxster S)...then u would swap out suspension (springs/shocks/sways/struts) and would have an awesome handling car w/ a great ride.

If ur still looking 4 performance...U can get the UR pulleys which may take another .1 off the 1/4 mile (i'd wait 2 see how other members do w/the UR pulleys (i.e. long term effects etc.IMHO)...Then there is always the S/C....that will take at least 1 sec off the 1/4 mile at 4.5 psi although the engine could handle up 2 as much as 7 psi stock w/o any worries ...so if u do all these engine mods including pulleys and s/c ( @6psi) ur looking at a low 12 sec. car (Porsche turbo territory)

p.s....look at centerline wheels...an accord v6 was put 2 the dyno w/their wheels and had a 10+whp gain w/ their 16s and an 6whp (I think but def. more than 4 and under 8whp) gain w/their 17s

I/m telling u bro, these Jblock engines have alottttttttttt of potential...no joke

COST:
Real World Pricing (NOT MSRP)
Comptech H/E: ~$1600
UR pulleys: ~$300
Comptech S/C (includes icebox): ~$4000
H&R sport springs:~$165
koni yellows: ~$600

don't know prices of sways or strut brace so fill me in peeps lol

Total (fre 4 u anyways since they are in ur 02): $6665.00

so 4 under $10k in mods u'll be e46 m3 and porsche 996 hunting (in a straight line lol)
P.s. some of the prices may be a liottle higher like the konis and stuff but u get the jist.

The headers are already out!!!!
I would guess that mid 13 second 1/4 mile times are gonna be easy!!! I was just up in Canada and went to Mission Raceway with my good friend. There was a guy with a stock Porsche 911, and 02, and he was runnig low13's all day!!! His best run was 13.10 at 1xx mph. So you will get close to that in speed, but not quite. If the CT SC ever comes out, then you should be able to get into the low 13's and maybe even hi 12's!! With all the mods, you will be spending less than $80k!!!

That's exactly what I wanted to hear so I wouldn't be that far off. Not to mention I would probably only be spending on the headers and maybe the S/C. I wanted to do that when I bought my car back in Sept. of last year but then I started to hear of tranny problems so I hit the brakes....

I'll go talk to the dealer around me this weekend and if I don't like the prices I'll prob. head out to Montclair Acura in NJ. Thats where I got my 02.

One thing to mention, if you are spending $33k on brand new CLS 6 speed... and mod up to the tune of $7k+... go buy yourself an S4 and chipped yoou would be in a better shape!...
CL has still weak brakes, still plow in curves...and do not forget torque steer....

AWD, 340 HP is nice!

The only reason I'm not considering the M3 and the S4 as with all the other truly high performance cars is my insurance. Even with the cl-s I'm spending $3200 a year, my friend had the new yellow M3 he was paying $8,000 a year of insurance under his moms name. Living in NY has its good points but car insurance is definetly not one of them.

More power 2 u bro I'm from NY (long Island) although I lived in queens and went 2 school there and the city till abt 2 yrs. ago. I agree w/ur assesment plus some peeps just want to be different and thats why there are volvo c70s, saabs, etc. out there that make over 300hp. I think the peeps who buy these cars can afford a beemer or benz but want 2 be different. Maybe ur 1 of them 2 and I'd love 2 see a modded s/c CL-S 6speed that can smoke a vette (give something at the vette 4um 2 talk abt lol )

But I agree w/ nashua, u must upgrade ur brakes and u will have lots of torque steer but so do so many tegs/civics/accords that run 1/4 in the 13s or less w/o NO2 lol. U have 2 drive responsibly and sensibly so that u can't fall in a bad situationan basically use common sense, of course the CL may nvr handle as well as some RWDs but w/some good suspension mods u really wouldn't care...

p.s. I planned on getting a CL 6speed w/in the next yr. but then I got into an accident and had 2 put everything on hold. I planned on modding the shiznit out of the CL lol and may do so unless Acura has a 6-speed 4 dr w/a J-block engine 3 yrs from now....:P

Hey with i/h/e and pullies and S/C why not throw in a 50 shot and run 11's.

I wouldnt want to get BMW or Volvo or Audi anyways because of reliability, cost to mod, cost to maintain ($130 oil changes???).

Oh and why don't CT auto headers fit for 6 speeds?

the auto headers dont fit the 6 speed because of an engine mount position that interferes with the old design, comptech had to change the bend on one pipe....now they are available to buy, one member here already has them installed on his 6 speed..no dyno results yet
