Has anyone towed anything with the CL, what is the capacity and where did you get the hitch (and which one) from.

I'd never tow anything w/ the CL, however the towing capacity of the car in either CL or CL-S form is 1000 lbs. (FYI: the same towing capacity of a 4-cylinder 1992 Honda Accord).

Is that just because of the bumper, I mean I don't know much about towing but it is a fairly sizeable engine.

and why do you say you'd never tow anything.

It's 1000 lbs. max mainly because the chassis was not designed (intentionally) to be super strong like that of a truck or SUV which can tow >6000 lb. Also keep in mind that the CL is FWD, so if a load is exerted at the rear axle due to a trailer, the overall weight distribution moves from the front to the back. This obviously will reduce front-wheel traction making it even more difficult to tow heavy loads.

The reason I say I'd never tow anything is mainly a personal preference. The CL was built and meant to be a passenger car. Plus I don't want to over-exert the engine (in terms of load and temperature) and cause unnecessary wear and tear. If I needed to tow something, I'd use a truck or a RWD/4WD SUV.

Yeah understandable, I just hate to drive a Uhaul for 2700 miles. I'm betting I have to look into what it costs to have it shipped or otherwise moved there.

I was only able to find a class I hitch for the CL... It's in the black market now for $75 shipped. Could you use one of those luggage carriers that attach to a hitch?

Towing puts stress on the chassis. Our chassis already sucks as it is. No need to make it more loose. Get a beater truck if you have to tow something often.

Well this wouldn't be something I would be doing on a regular basis. It's just one way to bring my stuff back east to put into my house in NC, which I will live in while at grad school. And I am really trying to avoid 2XXX miles from AZ to NC driving a piece of shit Radio Only 14' Uhaul.
I mean we are only talking about 1500 pounds of total weight, and I am getting rid of the car in 12 months. Could it really do that much to it.
I have read peole that towed about this weight with Honda Accords and had no problem.

The hitch doesn't attach to the frame. Two bolts in the spare tire well and one bolt to the tow loop under the license plate. The Accord and CL use the same hitch. Just buy my hitch, it's worth it to try at least.

I have a tow hitch and max weight is 1000 lbs.

I tow a single rail trailer with my motorcycle....

Beernurd is correct. The hitch bolts into the underframe (under the spare tire).

PGA... a light trailer with your souped up golf cart will not be a problem...

Why not rent a truck or a van with unlimited miles...will be cheaper then fixing your car...
