same as all car manufactures. The reason why the light colors look different is the use of the projectors.

I think Acura should switch to projectors. I believe they do cost more to produce, reflectors are more cost efficient I guess.

disagree... I saw a new Maxima and TL going side by side the other night. The HID lights on Maxima are much whiter/brighter than TL's. oh wider coverage too.. Maxima does not use projector lenses. The HIDs on TL/CL are the weakest (I think) when compared to Lexus IS300 (no projector too) and Maxi.

Well Maxima hids aren't that impressive from what I've seen. I always thought 01-02 CL/TL had better looking lights.

Sometimes I even find it hard to distinguish a Max as having them or not

It's hard to say for a difinitive answer. My friend's 01 TL's HID was brighter than my stock 03 CL. I know they toned it down starting in 02 and 03 was just plain bad. But the kelvins do not equal how much light is outputed. My 6000k do not put out as much as 4300k. The kelvins are merely the color of the light. It's the lumens that would have to be looked at to determine if in fact there is a difference between let's say the max and the cl or between the 01 tl and the 03 cl.

But the thing with projectors is, it projects farther, but doesn't spread as wide as our reflectors can...even tho it doesn't shoot out as far as the projectors do. Trade offs.

You are right on this. I know I read it in a auto lighting journal somewhere...

Projectors, as you'd expect "project" light out farther sacraficing the up close (very front of car) range to some degree.

HID Reflector lights can vary in color from car to car. This has to do with the design of the reflective peice behind the bulb. The brightest, whitest reflector light I've seen was on a Lexus LS430.

That's what I recall reading too...but unless I can find something to verify it...it does no good. Also I've noticed Lexus to have seemingly the whitest and brightest of all the other car manufactures who use HIDs.

I agree with you on the projector/reflector statement... Acura should have make our HIDs better. It seems to me CL/TL have the weakest HIDs, not as bright as other reflector HIDs. Maybe Acura tuned it down for oncoming traffic since our car does not have auto level feature...

ahhhhhhhhhh that would explain it. I have a 2001 cl-s, when 1 light started fogging i got it changed, they changed the bulb too, and since then that light never looked as blue or as bright as the other one wich is the original. Im guessing they gave me the 2002 light wich is not as bright, i could never figure it out

There was some complaint...even now still...about how the HIDs are "blinding" other drivers...I admit, sometimes they are bright...but you learn to look away.

runnerx: it would be tight if acura made projectors for the cars...would look HOT!!!!

eighteight: Yea I've heard other members complain about this also. I've noticed all my friends who have the 01 CL...their HIDs are definitely more bluer.

shaHn78: why just stop at maximas? Lexus and MB HIDs are "better" too...

This whitest brightest argument eludes me/ I only care which lights actually illuminate the roadway the best. I read on another thread that our lights actually illuminate better than the 6000 or 8000 lights! On a dark road that's significant and may say your life.

4300k at 3200 lumens will give you the best illumination on the road. The 6000k put out like 2800 lumens or something around there.

Its really a simple concept.

Get the 6000K for looks or stay stock.

Why does this have to be beat to death like every week?

we should have a page on this site that has the most asked questions put up so we don't start thread after thread on the same topic cuz god knows no one knows how to use the search feature.

unfortunately, too many don’t use search and refuse to look in FAQ or Chod's (new members say "Chod who?").
