At what RPM does VTEC kick in ?

Does anyone know? Cuz I'm wondering at which RPM is the best to switch gears at and when I can fully utilize VTEC.

if I sound like a car newbie, thats cuz I am!
(i just bought a Blue Type S this weekend.)

The Second Stage of the induction opens at ~3800RPM, and the VTEC engages in at ~4800RPM and disengages back out at 4600RPM.
Shifting in this car should be done at ~6900, look in the FAQ for the shift points explanation and calculator as posted by EricL I think.

I just thought of something pretty sic....

If you brake torque to 4800 rpms will the VTEC actually kick in??? That would be one sic launch (and screwed up t-convertor)

I doubt the brakes could hold that high an rpm but it would be neat for someone (other than me) to find out.

A few problems with that .... lol

1) T/C meltdown
2) VTEC would disengage the minute you release as a result of the RPM dropping, or tires would smoke until you bounced of the rev-limiter LOL
3) Tranny fluid temperature upwards of 300+ degrees......thermal breakdown...........

Nice idea though

Yeah something to try on a test drive with the dealer demo car

I guess ya can't put line locks on a front wheel drive car huh??? Ya can but they won't do much.... probably just drag the rears... But if you could get line locks to work... Then no torque convertor melt down... Just kick major a$$ launch

Fug it,
Let's just start looking into booster rockets onto the back. You know, the kind they use to help Starlifter transports off the ground when they are carrying max loads!

Good idea...! Lets see if we can exceed 9.8m/s2 and actually get liftoff Then we'll surely beat all those 600+ HP IS300's LOL

Yeah but let's watch our reaction time and what do you think our 60' time would be . Now I know how you got that 14.4. McGuire Air Force Base has a bulletin out regarding the theft of 2 booster rockets. That's why you got a black CLS to cover up the carbon marks! You then flew out to Yurisanov Raceway (www.ruskieswithrice.com) and ran that time in the heart of Siberia. Sorry Chris but I figured you out

Never underestimate the power of two solid rocket fuel boosters, a 35 sq. ft rear wing to prevent lift, and the Sub-Arctic ambient temperature of -210 degrees, on a frictionless plain...... LOL hhahahah

I thought the stock torque converter stalls out at around 2000-2500 rpm. I know when I was at the track, simply mashing the brake and flooring the accelerator brought the rpms up to that range and no more.

I imagine you'd need a higher stall tc to pull 4800 rpm at launch, right?
