What Other Cars Did You Consider Before You Bought Your CL?
#41
Suzuka Master
2002 Maxima SE
Altima SE
Mustang GT
I was most likely going to go with the Maxima until I found out I could afford a CL-S. Both had great value, but I'd rather have a 2 door at my age. And the Mustang was FUN to drive, but the interior was too cheap.

Before my parents bought their CL, they went shop for Lexus IS300 and GS300, but they thought that IS is too young for them and GS is not as economical as CL. Then they needed to decide between regular CL and CL Type S, and they prefer the quieter ride of regular CL so they ended up buying CL premium.

Nissan Maxima SE
Lexus ES300
Toyota Solara
I went with the Acura so I could have a 2-door car. I'm 32 with no kids so why have the extra doors?
Looking back, I wish I'd went with the Maxima or the Lexus. I've done nothing but make repeated phone calls & visits to the service department for my "certified" Acura. That's exactly what I was hoping to avoid by buying an Acura.
If I had time to go to the shop over & over again while debating with the service manager over points of certification, I would have bought a Chevy and saved some $$.
Live & learn I guess.

The only other car i kinda considered was the S2000, but when I actualy sat in it and looked at the trunk, etc., i realized just how small i realy is......but when i think about it, im 18 and realy dont need the room....and its so nice out for a convert.............o well, i LOVE my car anyway.
O, and it had to be a manual.

hmm
Audi A4---To this day I love this car as much if not more as the CLS--but the salesmen were assholes...they would not come down in price at all...the only way I could get the power I wanted would be to spend like 2k chipping it and then doing the exhaust etc...The reliability was questionable as well IMHO.....I do like this car though and it could be my next car...once the new bodystyle is in production a few years I might go for it....
Nissan Maxima SE---gobs of power but not that good looking...sort of old manish IMHO...
Nissan Altima....same deal as Maxima...cheap intereior turned me off though...
Accord coupe with 5 speed...this car is too friggin slow...
I got my CLS with Nav and spoiler for 27000....no other car was close for the value/coolness/power.....

TL-S ~ actually went to buy this but had to wait months to get the aegean blue - and they were offering $2000 off new CLs so went with it - got the color i wanted plus 2 doors which i really wanted in the first place
CLK430 was the first car i really yearned for before going to acura but couldnt justify paying $50k + for a 2dr car with a POS, boring, unnecessarily complicated interior and the price reaching 60k with all the options i wanted
Guess its safe to say most ppl liked other cars MORE but considering the price, options, and bang for the buck we went with the our CLs (or TLs) - i know i did

Well I don't own a CL model but do have a 2000TL
The car had to have 4doors not 2.
ACCORD EX V6 / wanted to step up from ACCORD no Nav & Sport -Shift or HID heated seats etc.
BMW 328 sedan series / to small at that time would have had to pay for stuff like HID stadard on the TL
Lincoln LS V6/ I just could not see me in a Lincoln & the V6 was not the best the V8 was & not in my price range.
Cadillac Seville STS/ out of my price range & a GM car.
BENZ C class / to small at the time & none of the stuff like Nav & sport-shift
I had been a HONDA owner for 20yrs when I got my TL this was the car for me. If the TL - Type -S model had been out at that time I would have got it.

Eclipse GT - Lack of power
Maxima SE - Too unrefined
Those were the only serious contenders although we looked at a whole bunch more.

I looked at a Jaguar X type. I went with the CL because an X type with the same features would have cost $10,000 more. And I was worried about reliability. So why have I been back to my Acura dealer twice for fixes with less than 3,000 miles?
