Mobil 1 5W-40, with a Fram X2 oil filter every 7,000 miles.

Second option if absolutely necessary, Castrol Syntec.

So far, Castrol GTX 5W-20 every 3750 miles and an Acura oil filter, like the manual says (extreme service interval).

I may go to synthetic and a Mobil 1 or Purolator filter at 15K miles, but am not convinced it will make any difference. My odometer is just above 10K miles, so I probably have half a year to make the decision.

I've run Mobil 1 in all my cars before this, but have friends and family that run regular dino, AND who are less obsessed about car, and I've never seen any of them have some sort of engine failure or longevity (we're talking probably 150K - 300K miles/car) issues.

I will agree with most that synthetics are better products in many ways, but I've not been convinced that any of those improvements make a difference in a car such as mine, which will never see a racing track.

Here we go on another oil thread...

I use Valvoline 5-30W, a new gasket and ONLY an Acura oil filter every 3,750 miles. Few know this, but the Acura filter contains a check valve which closes upon loss of oil pressure thus trapping oil in the cylinder heads so they are already lubricated upon the next start up.

And some would call this a waste of money, but every other oil change I also drain and replace the blinker fluid.

Mobil 1 5W-30

I emailed ExxonMobil early last year and they told me to expect a 5W-20 by the end of 02. I emailed them again, and they told me they had no plans to do a 5W-20 syth.

Zapata...I was just on their site and they reccommend doing it before changing to their oil so that you basically start fresh without having other stuff in there.

Do you think the dealership will do all this for me if I request it?

I thought this was common knowledge?
I mean any idiot will realize "hey the 03 has the same engine as the 02, but the oil recommended is 5w20, oh and hey, look, the MPG numbers went up for the 03 by 1 mi/gal".

Even the dealers will put in 5w30.
