what to maintain when having a s/c cl
what to maintain when having a s/c cl
if i were to s/c my cl, what are things i would have to maintain with the car to keep it running good with no problems? anything at all i would appreciate. i know you cant just install the thing and drive and thats it. im sure theres things out there to buy or look out for when this thing is installed.
Nothing else really. The blower will need service after 100k miles but that is about it. You should monitor the SC belt for wear just as you would the accessory belt. Outside of that, there is nothing else.
dont worry about the S/C
worry about stuff like your coil pack, egr valve, transmission, brakes, control arms, cv boots, shocks, struts, tires, and all your belts!
as long as you change your motor oil and rotate and inspect your tires you should be fine. otherwise if it aint broke dont fix it!

Order of frequency for maintenance items:
* Blower belt: Should check it's tightness regularly. I check mine about once or twice a month. Don't do the usual tightness test for regular belts. Do the twist test: CompTech recommends that the belt should be between a 45 and 90 degree twist.
* Spark Plugs: The initial S/C install will include colder plugs. I've seem replacement recommendations between 40k and 60k miles. This may depend on your driving habits. Please note, the blower unit will need to be removed to change plugs.
* S/C blower unit: Please note, I spoke with Shad at CompTech and was told that it is better to replace the blower around 80k miles instead of changing the oil.

But isn't the blower always spinning at n-RPM of whatever the engine RPM is, regardless of throttle position? What do you think the best vs. worse mileage you could get out of the blower unit?

I changed the SC oil in my GTP at 30k miles but it wasn't needed. They can go 100k+ miles without issue. Now about rebuilding it at 80k, that doesn't suprise me. We are not talking about the whole kit; that would probably run about $1000 I suspect.

Funny story... When I had time to chat with Essarack Hout (the guy whom I Installed his polished S/C'er), he told me that he went to a dealer and noticed a S/C 03 6-speed in the show room... after looking at it and speak with the dealer, the dealer popped the trunk and proceeded to show Essarack about 5 or so S/C'er belts... he then told Essarak " Your gonna need these because the supercharger belt breaks all the time"...
needless to say but Essarak left the dealership rather quickly.... I think it is funny, but that belt is just like any other accessory belt on your car... people think it breaks and wears out so easily... when it DOES NOT.

I actually changed them all in under an hour. But that is with a technique to get the blower loose quickly. But it is still less time than it took on my GTP or Typhoon.

yeah I can not see it being that bad.... those lower allen screws where the jack shaft meets the blower are stubborn.

Allout, yes enough to sell the S/C, the tranny problem made it my final decision. I also think I just got the serious itch to get a new car and buy some land. Both of which I'll be doing as soon as I sell my car.
