What I HATE about my CL!!

Don't get me wrong, I love this car its the best car I ever bought, but I HATE the location of the E-brake. It really really ticks me off cuz I'm used to the Japanese car style ebrake and I tend to forget to disengage it sometimes. There have been a couple of time that I had the Ebrake on while reversing out of my garage. I feel so guilty when I do it, but I thik if it was in the spot I'm used to then I would forget like I do. ( yean I know there's a light there to remind you but I still forget sometimes.)

What do you all think?

Its irritating... but at least we have a cool looking center console as a result of it.

It's better then the 1st Gen. e-brake. That thing looks like a dildo in the middle of the car. Ugly as hell......

I agree!! It happens to me often also and when I drive another car, my left foot tends to look for the release that isn't there. Poor design that dates back to the old domestic cars.

Its a good design. With the pull brake in my old integra, the center console was useless, just like every other car with the brake in the console. You also have to worry about your idiot friend who pulls it up when you are doing 80 on the highway.
And all the time its on you have a light on the dashboard, you do look at your dashboard don't you?
Its people like you that caused all these idiot warning labels on products like "this hot coffee is hot", "caution hot water causes burns", "do not eat the soda can", "these straws are not for internal use", "using this ladder may cause death", "do not submerge this hairdryer in water", "9 out of 10 dentists have teeth", "doll does not walk on its own", "your computer is running windows, subject to crash without notice", "plastic shrinkwrap is not a toy", "not to exceed 12 pills in one hour", "warning: battery may explode if put in microwave", "danger: icecubes made in this tray may cause frostbite", "object in the mirror may appear closer than they are", "do not overinflate, may burst", "knives are not for small children", "not responsible for damage caused", "use your headlights in poor lighting conditions", "this information deemed acurate but not reliable",.....

With an auto tranny is only annoying. If they do ever offer up a 6-speed manual, they better move the e-brake!

i think it's more convenient there. it's more of a luxury touch than anything else...most mercedes have it there (probably except for slk and new c-class). and it would make sense for a luxury touch too 'cuz it's out of the way and does free up the console and makes it look nicer.

it's become 2nd nature for me...like putting the car from park to reverse.

if you're that annoyed with it, don't use it...you have a thing called "park" on your transmission.

i never use the e-brake, but i would rather have it down there with autotransmission.

In the snow, its better for sliding when its down there, it is kind of easier, and cooler.

Dude, if I had a friend who pulled a stunt like that, he'd have to worry about his ass being launched out of the car at 80mph.

Here is my situation:
I don't hear well. Music is on, pull out of my driveway, la la la la down the road and suddenly, my "entire" car starts to shake intensely ! I thought we were having an earthquake ! Suddenly I realized, I had the e-brake on ! FUCK ! My breaks are ruined ! Call the dealership, and they said it will be fine !
I prefer the hand break !

New HATE!!

When I jump out of the car, the seat belt doesn't retrack properly, and I end-up slamming the buckle on the door!

It sucks that I always have to remember to guide it back, nice and easy.

Well that's my gripe, aside from the POS roadlamps.

In 25 yrs of driving I have never used the E-brake except with manual trannys. They can can put it in the trunk as far as I'm concerned.

How about when you get in and try to buckle up and the seatbelt hits a stop part of the way through extending it as though you had hit the brake pedal?

Or is that just something mine does?
Everytime I try to buckle up, it stops while I'm still trying to extend it and I have to try again until I can get it far enough out to latch it.

And this is before I even start the car, much less hold the brake and put it in reverse.

Whack.

hehehe My "Powered by Acura" shoulder pad stoped the seatbelt from going back all the way and I closed the door. My car has some more nice scratches

I remember reading about this problem on the forum long before I bought my CL-S. I've never accidentally closed the door on the seat belt buckle because from day one I would make sure to guide it back in place when I get out of the car. Without this forum I might have found out about that problem the hard way.

Oh, and BTW, I don't use my e-brake unless I have to park on an incline. I've never used the e-brake on any of my cars except for inclines.

Hey JRock, maybe your pulling the seat belt to fast? Not that you have to go really slow but you know, when u smoke rock, you tend to speed things up a bit

I've hated the e-brake position from day one. I guess having driven cars with the hand e-brake for the last 20+ years, my left foot just can't get used to doing this extra function. Also if you have heavy boots on you would scrape the underside of the dash or the side panel and leave scuff marks. And if you don't push down hard enough it won't engage. The other big gripe is the gated shifter. It's notchy. I find I have to look down when shifting from P to D or D to P. You kinda have to guide it thru that useless pattern. Other than that, and a few rattles, the car is great.
