What grade of gasoline do u feed your cls??

TQ > MPG
I only put decent name brand gas in mine. I prefer Mobil, but I'll put in Sunoco, BP, Amoco, and only in a pinch Speedway. I always get 93 in the CL, but I'll settle for 92 if thats the highest the gas station has. I put Sunoco 94 in the Mustang because it'll ping & knock if I put anything lower than 91 in it, which is due to advanced timing & no knock sensors.
Oh, and I dont feel sorry for the Cali guys at all. I'll take 91 octane gas over cold ass winter.

You have to look at the compression of the engine. Some cars have 9, or 9.1 & say 91+ only, & you can get away with lower with no power loss. We have high compression which results in the need for higher grades of gas.

you guys are going to think i am the biggest asshole!!!
once i brought my '03 LS 6-speed to the Alabama International Dragway in Steel Alabama. i know there was a gas station on the way there that sold race fuel but that was it. I was only going to get a quarter mile time but i decided to get some of this gas i had seen a mechanic of my provious car use. well the gas was 118 octane so I put it in, four gallons at llike $5 a gallon. As I'm leaving the gas station this kid in a rice rocket goes to complement my car and asks if i put the 118 gas in my car. I say yes, then he informed me that it was LEADED 118 octane gas. I quickly threw her in reverse and grabbed four gallons of 93 octane regular. liuckily everything is ok o2 sensor seems to be fine.
However, I always use the best available 91-94 octane.
enjoy,
JIM

on this topic I also have a question for you all....there are many, many gas stations around my area that all hover around the same price for premium gas...now there's one station that is always 7 - 10 cents higher than the rest.....I got gas there once a few months ago (it's a SUNOCO station) and I swear the car felt STRONGER . The owner of that Sunoco station told me that he always keeps his tanks topped up and that is why the gas is better quality. Is this my imagination??? I always use a name brand (mobil/amaco/hess/etc///)

The 2nd Gen CL-S specs call for 91 octane. Using 87 or 89 will definitely have a negaive impact on engine performance and mileage - bad idea! I use 91 or or 92 depending on the brand (Shell's Premium is rated at 91, Chevron's at 92).
On the other hand, most experts say that paying more for "super premium" such as Chevron or Sunoco 94 is a waste of money as your engine does not receive any performance benefit from the higher octane.
My '92 Prelude also ran on 91 octane. The dealer's service rep once suggested that I run a tank of Chevron 94 before taking my car in for AirCare inspection (BC's compusory emission testing). Gasoline contains detergent additives to clean your engine. He said that Chevron 94 contained more of this additive and that it might help in reducing the emissions for the test.

The octane for premium gas depends on elevation. "Premium" gas can be 91 octane in Denver (maybe even lower) or 93 octane in Florida. In fact in Florida the octane levels for regular/mid/premium are 87, 89, and 93.
If you are in Denver and always put in 93/94 octane (if you can find it), you are only wasting your money. You only want enough octane level to prevent premature detonation.
