You have to take into other factors too..the 60 ft time which is an idicator of traction is also a big deterent. I think that SC from Comptech might be a pretty decent investment...looking at 12s with the right traction.

What does NOS actually do?

Ok saw the movie last night. Umm, we all know that there was a lot of Bullshit in the movie but that isn't my point. I want to know what NOS really does. Let's say we add a 50 Shot to our cars how would that improve 1/4 mile and what would a 100 shot do. Is it really that much, I don't think so? Not that I would put that shit anywhere near my car, just wondering how fabricated the movie was.

It supplies oxygen in a concentrated form. This, in itself, would be useless without adding additional gas to the increased oxygen released from the N20.
I would guess that about 100 extra HP would be feasible from some one of the TL dynos. More power can be had, with consequences...

Here is a link to a one of many FAQs:

http://www.musiccityrodshop.com/nosfaq.htm

(One of the actual FAQs explains how the Oxygen is liberated during combustion, etc.)

Correct! NOS basically increases fuel combustion tremendously. Thus increasing cylinder pressure and temp. and creating power. The nitrous effect isn't really as drastic as the movie portrays. When I spray my 70 shot NOS, I feel an initial "kick" when it activates and before I know it I'm outta there.

In NOS we Trust.

I paid about $630 installed for my NOS 70 shot wet kit with a filled bottle. My car is holding up just fine. Our J-block engines can handle up to a 100 shot of nitrous without internal modifications. Last weekend at the street races I beat a 2000 Mustang V6 automatic and he was running a 100 shot of NOS, cold air induction, steeda exhaust, steeda performance ECU, and semi-slicks/drag radials. Pretty good I must say. I just love the look on domestic drivers' faces when they get pasted by an import sedan!

Basically, every shot equals to 1 hp gain. But NOS is like steroids, its not fair.

Go for throttle over bottle!!!

I've had the NOS for about a month now. I am still running fine, knock on wood.

General rule of thumb is that for every 50 hp gained by nitrous it shaves about a second off of your 1/4 mile time.

Once you've been on the juice, your hooked. It's just like adrenaline, for your engine. I would recommend NOS to anybody who wants LOTS of power for a MINOR amount of green. Just remember that there are some risks with nitrous, but as long as you are running a reasonable shot(not over 100 shot), and you aren't a moron, then you should be just fine.

Most of this sounds right (after all your ARE the one running it).

Just a comment about the 1 second per 50 HP...

I hope that some of you with CLS' with NOS dreams are not thinking that an extra 50 HP will be getting you to 13.3 if you're doing 14.3, and will drop you from 13.3 to 12.3...

Rules of thumbs are great to get "in the ballpark figures", just as I (and others) mention potential gains from mods, lightened wheels, etc.

Each second drop in the quarter mile, takes a big increase in power. I'm going to just dump some front wheel HP figures from the NHRA calculator, and figure that these are based on the power getting to the road surface (and our Acuras DO NOT come straight from the factory with retractible wheely bars. Here is some sample data from the calc (The general point is to see the increasing requirements as the ET goes down):

Weight Wheel HP 1/4 E.T. MPH +HP (50)
---------------------------------------------
3700 210 15.14 90 0
3700 240 14.48 94 30
3700 260 14.10 97 50 x1
3700 280 13.76 99 70
3700 310 13.30 102 100 x2
3700 330 13.03 104 120
3700 360 12.65 107 150 x3
3700 410 12.12 112 200 x4
3700 460 11.66 116 250 x5
3700 710 10.09 135 500 x10

Note: The first 50 hp increase drops the "estimated time" by almost a second, as the ETs go down, it takes 100 hp to go from 12.65 to 11.66. Finally, to go from 11.66 to 10.09 needs another 250 hp. (Some of this is kind of silly, since the transmission would have gone away in smoke )

Yup. As ETA's get lower, the hp increase required to lower you 1/4 times get's higher. But come one, how many of us are running in the 12's?
