Talking What does this lever do on the CLS6's trans?

Just wanted to know what this lever does on the top of the transmission on a manual 2003 cl? It's outlined in yellow, lol @ my photoshop skills.

It seems adjustable.

Here I reposted the pic, I think the problem was that I put the pic in a private album.

lol I figured that much, but what's the purpose of it. I can move it by hand into 3 different positions. Also, my old car was a stick too, but it didn't have this. Just out of curiosity.

My best guess is it's a counter weight. Something added to improve shift feel or something.

the level moves between all gears. it works in conjunction with the small lever to select which gate you are in. the small one returns to its original position because it controls the horizontal movement of the shifter.

when i talked to the master tech about it in tallahassee fl he said that from his knowledge it is a countereight like fuzzy said. He also said do no mess with it unless u want to pay for a new trans. I was gonna modify it to put my turbo kit in but i decided to modify the piping was cheaper then a trans.
