What could it be?

I am only 1k into my most recent oil change and the maintenance light blinks a couple times when i first start up the car. If it does not need an oil change what does it need?

You're getting close to one of the scheduled maintenance times.

At 90k, owners manual says:

Replace engine oil.
Rotate tires.
Replace oil filter.
Inspect front and rear brakes.
Check packing brake adjustment.
Inspect tie rods, steering gear box, and boots.
Inspect suspension.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect brake hoses and lines.
Check all fluids and for leaks.
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
Inspect exhaust system.
Inspect fuel lines and connections.
Replace air cleaner element.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace dust and pollen filter.

In other words, nothing more then some visual inspections that you can do yourself.

------------------

For the first 6k miles after you've hit the scheduled maintenance mileage, it'll come on for 2 seconds when you turn the car on.

Between 6k and 7.5K miles it'll come on for 2 seconds and then flash for 10 seconds.

After 7.5k miles it will stay on.

To reset it, turn off the engine. Press an hold the Select and Reset buttons for the trip odometer and turn the ignition switch to ON (II). Hold the buttons for 10 seconds until the indicator resets.

Problem: Maintenance Req'd Light On.

Solution: Cross your fingers when you're starting the car.

Or what TheWeez said, Press and hold the Select and Reset buttons for 10 seconds when you turn the ignition to the "on" position

That's what it sounds like to me too. They probably didn't reset the maintenance light when they did the oil change. Maintenance light doesn't come on for major maintenace intervals.

It's a dummy light!
Do not concern yourself. It goes on every 7250 miles & if it's not reset will stay lit.

Reset it as posted above.

Hmmmm, mine must be broken or something then because it only comes on when I've passed maintenance points like 60k and 75k. Weird.

That's because someone must be re-setting it at those points for you... I've had mine go off at odd number mileage (like 67843 miles) all the time since I never reset it at EXACTLY at 60K (or 67.5K, etc etc) miles...

It's just a dummy mileage counter that goes off starting at 6K miles and goes solid at 7500 miles... I;ve had mine on for a couple weeks till I changed the oil and reset it.

From the FAQ forum (link to maintenace schedule is there too) sticky:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=178269

What really surprises me is that someone who's been a member since 2003 doesn't know about the maint light yet...

Maybe they're resetting it when I get my oil changed I guess. Only times I've had it go off were right around 65k, 70k, and 75k.

It should illuminate at least once or maybe twice, not sure I have not counted, but the dash lights do that so you know if one of the bulbs is out. Reset fixes all though, and speaking off mine is on and I think I will fix it tomorrow.
