Went to the track

Went to a couple of tracks this weekend At Ozarks dragway on friday night it was test and tune I made 20 runs and could net get very good numbers nor did they inprove as the night got colder got there about 7pm 77deg pretty humid last run was at 11pm 70 deg. I am running a 03 6-spd with a Comptech Icebox and I was running my tires at 20psi in the front at 40psi in the back. I also have a really big speaker box, and did not take out anything extra for the track. I was having a hard time with my launch MY QESTION IS WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO LAUNCH A 6-SPD AT THE TRACK AND WHAT ARE THE BEST SHIFT POINTS?????? I tried launching a bunch of different ways and was shifting at red-line.. Any pointers for the track would be appreciated!

Saturday whent to mo kan dragway didn't race but there was some cool cars, a couple of evos, a couple new 350Z's and there were some 11sec civics and some eclipses running low 11's

These are some of my best passes

rec 1.02 .8261
60ft 2.39 2.32
330ft 6.37 6.37
1/8et 9.67 9.69
1/8mph 74.7 74.33
1000 et 12.49 12.52
1000 mph 86.70 86.30
1/4 et 14.73 14.77
1/4 mph 93.98 94.02

those times seem whack, even with a 2.3 60ft time i would expect atleast a 14.5. call me retarded but it seems to me that your mph seem a little low, and how did your 60ft time improve on your 2nd run and you run .04 worse? sounds like you made different shift points.

14.7 is not so bad with a high 2.3x 60' time. I do think the mph is a little low though. I was running low 93mphs in 80+ degree weather in an auto that was BS (bone stock).

That's a decent time for the weather, but the mph does seem low. What rpm should the 6 speed be launched at? I plan on taking mine to the track soon even though it's not ideal conditions.

Hey guys those runs were not back to back, I did 20 or so runs and these were the best, most of them 14.8's but i tried launching at 1k rpms and 2k, I did big ass burnouts (on stock tires) but they would spin all throught first, even at idle launch there were a few times i was getting wheel hop at 30mph, I shifted at different points i tried shifting at 6500 all the way throught red line there were a few runs that i was shifting at 7200 (real close to the rev limiter) and that did not seem to help

comments and pointers???

get some better tires. if you go again w/ the stocks, maybe air them down a few more pounds.

i think it's best to shift at redline.

how much gas did you have? did you remove the spare and jack? i'm assuming no since you didn't take out the sub box.

On the hard street tires the CL-S comes with it's better to roll on the throttle than to just dump the clutch and go wot.

The thing is with fwd if you shock the tires too much you'll get wheelhop which is even worse than just spinning. Also, the sub box along with running your tires at 20psi could account for a mph or two below what it should be.

The stuff in the trunk also hurts in 2 ways. First of course is the plain extra weight that slows down acceleration off the line, and second it puts more weight in the rear which will only cause more weight transfer on the launch, which is only contributing to wheelspin and wheelhop.

Next time leave the jack, spare, and box at home and try some less aggressive launches.

One tip, don't do burnouts on those stock tires. Just a quick little spin to clear them of any debris will do the trick. Too much heat and the tires will get greasy.....resulting in bad 60' times.

one of the z's were running 14.2-14.3 the other was running 14.5-14.7 they had different rims from one another ( so i guess they were different packages, road, enthu..) but neither of them were the good one with the brembos the evos were the coolest, but i wasnt impressed with their numbers one of the evos was running 13.7-13.9 the other could not get under 14's 14.1-14.4 and they were both launching the hell out of them you could here them hitting the rev limiters!
